Summary
Donkey Konghas been going through a bit of a transitional period recently, thanks to a new design change for the upcomingMario Kart WorldandDonkey Kong Bananzagames. Instead of his usual design,he’s been updatedto look a lot more like his design in theSuper Mario Bros.movie, as Nintendo probably wants its characters to look similar across all media.
Ever since its reveal, Nintendo has gone aboutscrubbing away Donkey Kong’s previous design wherever it can, including on the current Nintendo Switch system. A lot of people found it a little concerning, and worries were immediately heightened after we all realized that we hadn’t seen Diddy Kong since the reveal of his brother’s new design. If his brother got a face-lift, surely that means Diddy Kong is getting one too, right?
Diddy Kong’s New Design Has Been Revealed By Nintendo
Well, Nintendo has finally revealed Diddy Kong’s new design, and it’s good news for all you purists out there. In a news post sent to Switch owners (thanks Nintendo Everything), Nintendo finally revealed Diddy Kong’s new design, and he remains largely unchanged from the design we’re now used to.
However, there are some slightly noticeable differences. For starters, our new Diddy Kong is a lot less gummy, as he’s now sporting a full set of teeth. Clearly, monkeys have really good dental in Nintendo’s world.
There are a couple of other minor changes, as Diddy Kong’s hat no longer has the Nintendo logo on the front, and instead just features a small pin. Besides that, Diddy Kong’s feet have also been made a little less bulbous, and look more in line with what you’d see on a real chimpanzee. Apart from those small details, Diddy Kong remains largely unchanged.
While we don’t have confirmation that Diddy Kong will be in Donkey Kong Bananza, it seems pretty likely now that the character’s new design has been shared. He’s going to be in Mario Kart World, but I don’t think Nintendo would make such minor alterations, especially to his feet, if he wasn’t going to be in Bananza too. We don’t have to wait too long to find out in any case,as Donkey Kong Bananza is set to launch on July 17 later this year.
