Devil May Cry 5is over six years old now, but Capcom still hasn’t given any updates about the series' future. While there have been murmurs, withcreator Hideki Kamiya saying that he wants to remake the original, the departure of director Hideaki Itsuno from the company has left many fansworried that they won’t see a sequel anytime soon.
That hasn’t stopped the community from calling on Capcom to make one, though, and they’re not alone. Johnny Yong Bosch, known for a host of iconic roles, from the Black Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach and, of course, Nero in the Devil May Cry games and Dante himself in the anime, likewise wants the series to return.
“Is that enough to get DMC6 going?“he said in response to an IGN articleabout the boost in sales spurred on by the new Netflix show. “Just asking for a friend.”
DMC5 has now sold over ten million copies.
Some fans took this to mean that Bosch is teasing an announcement or that he knows something we don’t, but he put it best: replying with a facepalm emoji.
Langdon accidentally said ‘Devil May Cry 6’ in an interview, before shuffling back to say that he meant DMC5.
Others simply joined in, voicing their hope for a sequel, but one fan wrote that they would “RIOT” if Reuben Langdon didn’t return as Dante, saying that Bosch should remain as Nero. “Totally fine opinion to have, but also probably why [Capcom would] hesitate because the whole… riot part of your tweet,” Bosch replied. “Just feels aggressive and a reason why ending on a high note with 5 might seem safe enough.”
“Also Asking For A Friend”: Bosch Isn’t The Only DMC Actor Who Wants To See A Sequel
Composer Casey Edwards, who produced the music for Devil May Cry 5 (as well as the iconic Capcom fighting gameStreet Fighter 6),quote retweeted Bosch’s post, joining in on the call for a sequel. “Also asking for a friend…” he said. “I’m sure if we follow Dan long enough, he’ll eventually leak something for us.”
It’s bittersweet to see those involved in DMC5 so excited about the series' future. As @25thNut put it simply, “If Johnny doesn’t know whether or not a DMC6 exists then…” It looks like we might be waiting a while, but at least Kamiya is finally bringing back Okami, while Onimusha and Ninja Gaiden make their long-awaited return, bringing back the character action genre after years of wading through nothing but Soulslikes.
