After six years,we’re finally back in Kojima’s oddball sandboxdelivering parcels alongside Sam Porter. But for all the PC players who fell in love with Fragile and Heartman, and are itching for more of that world and its literally-named characters, the wait isn’t over yet. Right now, Death Stranding 2 is a PS5 exclusive, with no word on when Kojima will hook it up to the Chiral (read: Steam) Network.
For PC players, the FOMO is hitting (Die-) hard, man. Last night, Death Stranding Director’s Cut set a new all-time peak player count on Steam, reaching over 22,000 players. It already broke that record earlier this year in March, when it hit 6,991 players, but with over double that figure just months later, amid a steady decline, it’s impressive what an impact the sequel is having.

Death Stranding Is A Top Ten Best-Selling Steam Game
Not including free-to-play games (can we really say that they’re top ‘sellers’?) or the Steam Deck, the first Death Stranding is currently the 10th best-selling game on Steam. It’s beating out hits likeRematch,Helldivers 2, andOblivion Remastered, no doubt also being spurred on by the major Summer Sale price cut.
You can grab Death Stranding right now at 60 percent off for $15.99.
As of writing, the top ten best-sellers look like this, with Death Stranding on the very cusp, beaten out only by industry giants likeBaldur’s Gate 3andnew indie darlings like Peak:
The sequel will no doubt be a massive event when it launches on PC, given how eager players are to get stuck back into this world. But for now, Death Stranding 2 is performing incredibly well on PS5, debuting in the number one spot in the UK physical charts.
Granted, physical sales are 66 percent lower than the original Death Stranding’s, but asjournalist Christopher Dring notes, we’re comparing “different eras” here. The market is far more digital now, and the first Death Stranding launched at the beginning of the pandemic, when the world was huddled indoors and desperately trying to connect in what ways they could.
The series is a hit: let’s just hope it comes to PC sooner rather than later.
