It’sDeath Stranding 2launch week, and much to the chagrin of Hideo Kojima, the sequel has scored an impressive 89 on OpenCritic. Its incredible graphics will have helped the game achieve those high scores, and gamers have been using On The Beach’s lead actor to demonstrate just how far graphics have come over the past three generations.
Norman Reedus returns to the role of Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding 2, and while he might look almost exactly the same as he did in the originalDeath Stranding, a side by side shows the jump between graphics on thePS4andPS5. However, even though there wasn’t a Death Stranding game before the PS4, Reedus has been around long enough that his gaming resume dates back further than 2019.
Despite playing the lead in two Kojima games, Reedus is still best known for portraying Daryl inThe Walking Dead. That includes a couple of appearances in spinoff games on thePS3.Mcquack306has taken a screenshot of Reedus from one of those TWD games and put it alongside close-ups of how Reedus looks in Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2.
We’ve Come A Long Way Since The PS3
Think About That While You Marvel At The Beauty Of Death Stranding 2 Later This Week
It can often feel like the graphical leaps between console generations have reached the point where they have become pretty negligible. However, seeing the same guy on three different generations of PlayStation side by side like this hammers home just how far we’ve come during the last decade and a half.
You can even go back to thePS2whereReedus can be seen on a poster in the background of Silent Hill 3. I’m not sure that counts for this particular discussion, though.
Even based on that shot of Sam in Death Stranding 2 alone, it’s pretty clear that this is going to be one of the most visually stunning games any of us has ever seen. Also, despite what this article is attempting to highlight, it’s hard to imagine how games can look much better than this.
Death Stranding 2 is approaching photo-realistic levels via its graphics, and how it runs on the PS5 Pro is evidence that we’re almost at a point where new consoles can’t do much more graphically. Apparently, the sequel’s quality mode is effectively redundant on the Proas it looks and runs the same way as it does on a base PS5. Cue me writing this same article about graphical leaps between the PS5, PS6, and PS7 15 years from now.
Death Stranding 2 launches exclusively on the PS5 later this week on June 26.There are already copies in the wild, andreviews have dropped, so beware spoilers if you want to go into the sequel fresh, ready to experience the next part of Sam Bridges' story.
