Death Stranding 2is here, and thousands, maybe even millions of people, will be embarking on the new chapter of Sam Porter Bridges' story this weekend. Some of you might have made a fair few in-game deliveries by the time you read this, so it’s worth knowing that the new game’s ladders are a lot better than they were in the original.
Ladders are one of the first mechanics introduced in the originalDeath Stranding, but they’re also one of its most important tools. Used not only to climb, but also to bridge gaps. They function in the same way in Death Stranding 2, more or less, except they’ve received an upgrade that makes them even more helpful, as you’re able to combine two ladders to make them even longer.
I lost count of the number of times in the first Death Stranding when I unfurled a ladder only to discover it doesn’t quite reach the ledge I was trying to get to, or the other side of a river that will sweep me and my cargo away if I try to wade through it. I can’t have been the only one, asKojima Productionshas tweaked ladders so they can be twice as long. As long as you have two of them on you, you can make a ladder that’s twice as long and bridge a gap that you’d have needed a bridge to cross in the original game.
Death Stranding’s Ladders Are A Lot Better Than They Used To Be
We Won’t Need Bridges Where We’re Going
Doubling them up isn’t the only way ladders have been greatly improved upon between Death Stranding games. With potentially twice as much distance to climb while using one, climbing them rung by rung might become a bit of a chore. That’s why, in Death Stranding 2, they’ll carry Sam from the bottom to the top automatically. Think of it as an escaladder, and before you rush to patent the idea, someone has already thought of it.
I may have saved the best for last. Not only can Death Stranding 2’s ladders be twice as long, but they can also be used multiple times. That means if you have another daunting climb ahead, you’re able to turn around, grab the ladder you just climbed and use it again. Uses are still limited, but you can use ladders more than once this time around.
Ladders aren’t the only element of Death Stranding 2 that’s been improved upon that you might not have noticed. Just like the first game, it will wish you a happy birthday if you play on your birthday. However, the celebrations are a lot more elaborate in the sequel.
