Death Stranding 2’s frankly incredible visuals seem to be a bit too much for somePS5s to bear, as players are reporting that their consoles are overheating or getting hot to the touch while playing.

As I’m sure you’re all very sick of hearing,Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has to be one of the best-looking games ever made. The original was a looker, sure, butKojima Productionshas absolutely taken things to the next level in the sequel.Just look at Norman Reedus and tell me I’m wrong.

In my experience, those amazing visuals have been met with some great optimisation, as Death Stranding 2 runs without a hitch on myPS5 Pro. That being said, it seems that’s not a universal truth, as a decent number of players are reportedly running into overheating issues, especially in one oddly-specific part of the game.

Death Stranding 2 Looks So Good That Your PS5 Might End Up Suffering

Son Of A Beach That’s Hot

As reported by Game Rant, a Redditor by the name of mudman2018 (who sounds like a Death Stranding character themself) posted on the game’ssubreddit to report that they’ve had some issues while playing on a base PS5. According to them, the game runs fine most of the time, but that the fan goes into “overdrive” when on the map screen.

This has led to them getting an overheating warning on a few occasions, which they find strange since it’s just on the map and the console has been cleaned recently.Other users in the subreddit report the same issue, with many saying that the base PS5 is struggling with the game in quality mode.

One Redditor pointed out that the map causing overheating was an issue inHorizonas well, which runs on the same engine as Death Stranding.

It’s not just the base PS5 that seems to be struggling, though. One PS5 Pro user reports that they’ve had overheating problems as well, with their console being “hot to the touch”. This is all after the recent update to the game, so it’s not really clear what the issue is at the moment.

It’s possible that the Death Stranding 2’s map and menus simply aren’t as optimised as the rest of the game, but it’s still weird that so many users are reporting issues right now. Hopefully Kojima Productions has a workaround coming in the near future so everyone can keep on keeping on.
