Death Stranding 2players are only just learning that Sam’s backpack can be stolen from him, and that it can also lead to one of the game’s nicest moments.
As you’d expect from a Hideo Kojima game,Death Stranding 2: On the Beachis packed full ofsecrets, easter eggs, references, and even hidden mechanics that the game doesn’t tell you about. From thetime loop that can happen at the very start of the gameto being able toshoot enemies with real bullets, there’s a lot to uncover in Death Stranding 2.
Even though Death Stranding 2 has been out for more than a month now, that hasn’t stopped fans from only just learning about some of the things that can happen to Sam while you’re out reconnecting Australia and Mexico. One of my favourite recent discoveries has to do with Sam’s backpack and what can happen to it if you’re not careful.
You might want to let a Mule steal your backpack in Death Stranding 2
Just don’t be too hard on the poor guy
Unlike the first game, Death Stranding 2 lets you offload your backpack, which comes in handy whenever you’re about to get in a fight and don’t want all of your cargo to get damaged. As it turns out, though, that backpack can actually be stolen from you, which Redditor TheFakeJoel732 recently realised and shared on the Death Stranding subreddit.
As valid as TheFakeJoel732’s violent response to having their backpack stolen was, it turns out that there’s actually a very heartwarming outcome to the situation.Redditor PlasticRhombus recently highlighted that Sam can let the Mule keep the stolen backpackonce you’ve caught him, which leads to an interesting outcome.
Don’t worry too much about losing the backpack for good, as you may actually fabricate another one pretty easily.
If you let the Mule take the backpack, you’ll actually see them post on SSS (Death Stranding 2’s version of a social media feed) about changing their lifeand becoming a porter thanks to Sam. Not only that, but the “reformed Mule” can then be seen delivering packages with other porters from time to time.
Considering how rare it is to have your backpack taken from you in Death Stranding 2, it’s interesting that such a memorable and heartwarming moment is completely missable. If you want a new friend for life, it might be worth letting your backpack get stolen the next time you play.
