Death Stranding 2offers you an interesting choice in its opening hour, but picking it will trap you in an unending time loop until you do the right thing.

If there’s one thing that Hideo Kojima’s games have become known for over the years,it’s secrets and missable interactionsbased on player choice. The firstDeath Strandingplayed along with this fact greatly (we all remember Higgs chewing off Sam’s ear, right?), and the sequel is no different.

Beyond how many choices you make moment-to-moment while delivering packages in Death Stranding 2, the sequel introducesdialogue trees that let you influence what Sam says during a conversation. It’s mostly for flavour text, but there is a very fun interaction during one of the game’s first conversations.

Of Course Death Stranding 2’s Opening Cutscenes Have An Optional Time Loop

Sam Doesn’t Really Have A Choice In The Matter

In the opening hour of Death Stranding 2, we seeSam and Lou living peacefully off the grid somewhere in Mexico. As you might expect, this peace is quickly interrupted by Fragile, who visits Sam and asks him to perform one more job to clear his standing with the UCA. This leads to Sam having multiple dialogue choices.

Most of the choices on offer are for story purposes and have Sam asking Fragile about why he’s been picked alongside some other bits of catching up.As pointed out by IGN, once Fragile has explained the mission in full, Sam will be able to choose either “I’ll do it” or “I won’t do it”. As you can imagine, the first choice is the canon one, while the second leads to a funny scene.

If you picknotto take the mission, everything will cut to black while thecutscene starts over with “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” playing all over again. This time around, though, the pictures on Sam’s wall will include one of him being asked to take the mission by Fragile, leading to you making the decision all over again.

This isn’t the first time that Kojima has played with canon in his games - we all remember theTime Paradox that could be created in Snake Eater…

From here, you can keep picking not to take on the mission if you like, which will cause the timeloop to keep happening over and over again - the only way out is to accept your fate and say that you’ll do it. The decision doesn’t have a bearing on the plot, but it’s still a nice nod to the little secrets that Kojima is known for.
