Summary
Dead by Daylightis arguably one of the forebears of the video game crossover, bringing horror icons from across the globe to one place to scare the living daylights out of all who play. However, the same can’t be said of Dead by Daylight’s original creations, as whilethe game has everything from Michael Myers to a Xenomorph, we haven’t really seen Behaviour Interactive’s original killers break out into other media.
That apparently isn’t due to a lack of trying though, as we recently discovered that Dead by Daylight head of partnerships Mathieu Cote did actually try to get a couple of the game’s killers into another game. While there are probably a bunch of other horror games that could realistically benefit from a Dead by Daylight crossover,Super Smash Bros. Ultimatewasn’t one of them.
Yes, in an interview with TheGamer at PAX, Cote reveals that he “tried to get Dead by Daylight in Smash Bros.”, which would definitely havetaken the crown for the most bizarre crossoverever had it happened. We then asked him which character he wanted to add to Nintendo’s big platform fighter, to which he said “the Trapper, because he’s the poster boy, or the Huntress, maybe.”
Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t really seem to jive with the idea of characters like Mario and Link beating up serial killers, as it “very nicely and very politely told me, probably not.” It’s a sensible decision from Nintendo, given that the Trapper swinging an axe around Final Destination may have ruined the family friendly vibe the game was going for, but I can’t say I’m disappointed it never happened.
But hey, we know thatSuper Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai is working on a new game at the moment, which could be a new Smash game for Nintendo Switch 2. All I’m saying is never say never, and I will be supporting Behaviour’s attempts to get a serial killer in Smash for the foreseeable future.
