It’s been a little while since we last got a newDarksidersgame, with Darksiders Genesis launching all the way back in 2019. Last year, THQ Nordic teased that the Darksiders drought might be coming to an end during one of its showcases, giving us a brief shot of The Charred Councilto whet our appetite.
Now, almost exactly one year later, THQ Nordic has dropped the secrecy and fully announced Darksiders 4 during this summer’s THQ Nordic showcase. Unfortunately, we didn’t get much information about the title - suggesting that it might be a while before we actually get to play it - but it did seem to confirm that all four of the Horsemen will be involved this time around.
We don’t know which of the horsemen will be the sole focus this time around, as each game in the series has had either War, Death, Fury, or Strife as the protagonist, but War was up front and center during the reveal. With all four in the picture, perhaps we could see some multiplayer functionality, but that’s purely guesswork on my part.
It’s also kind of disappointing that we didn’t see how the game will actually play. The series has been a mishmash of genres ever since its inception, going from a 3D Zelda-like, to a Diablo-like, to Souls-like, and then finally to a top-down, twin-stick shooter. We’ll have to wait for another update to see what Darksiders 4 is going to do, but I’m personally hoping for a return to its hack and slash roots.
Unfortunately, we still don’t have a release date, but that was the theme for the entire show.Plenty of cool stuff was shown off by THQ Nordic, such as a new Spongebob game called Titans of the Tide and a remaster of Sacred 2, while we also got new looks at promising upcoming titles like Reanimal and the Gothic Remake.
