If you need moreCyberpunk 2077in your life — and we all know the answer to that — then there is some major news.CD Projekt Redhas revealed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the 2022 breakout anime set within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, is getting a 10-episode Season 2.

The announcement, which was made during a panel at this year’s Anime Expo, also saw the release of a new piece of key art from Ichigo Kanno of TRIGGER, the studio that produced the anime for Netflix.

Unfortunately, a release window wasn’t provided, nor were any additional story details beyond it being a tale of redemption and revenge, with a tagline that reads: “When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”

That said,it was made abundantly clear that David, the protagonist from the first season, will not be in the sequel.

Edgerunners Was A Major Hit, Making A Sequel Inevitable

Nearly a year ago, in November, CDPR confirmed that another animated show was in the works at Netflix, though it was unclear if it would be an Edgerunners sequel. Following that news, the official Edgerunners account teased news for Anime Expo, with Friday’s announcement being that tease.

To this day,Edgerunners has maintained a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics, and 95 percent among fans, making it a major hit in the anime sphere. It won Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year award, andits popularity spawned everything from new collectiblestocrossovers with Wuthering Wavesanda guest appearance by Lucy in Guilty Gear— the first guest character ever in the franchise.

All that is to say, a sequel within that world, even without David, seemed inevitable, and now we know for sure that this is indeed the route CDPR and TRIGGER are taking.
