Cyberpunk 2077’s latest updatewent live this week, adding even more content to the game long after we thought support had ceased. One of the new features of the update isself-driving cars- something we knew was always part of the lore, but was never an option for V outside of the main story.
However, it looks like you might be better off taking the wheel yourself. Cyberpunk players have quickly found that the autodrive feature is less than reliable, with videos showing how slow, accident-prone, and just overall busted it is. A statement on the real-world efforts to popularise self-driving technology, perhaps?
Cyberpunk 2077’s Autodrive Feature Might Not Be Worth It
While some have made the most of it, cruising around Night City hands-free, others are having… less success. As you’re able to see in the clips being shared on the subreddit, the autodrive technology just doesn’t know what to do sometimes. This can result in, at best, unoptimal routes, and at worst, traffic accidents.
In the replies, others agree that the pathfinding for self-driving vehicles is pretty busted right now and suggest that this is because the AI on all vehicles is fairly unreliable. Indeed, it’s come a long way since launch, but sometimes, NPCs do make some questionable decisions on the road.
So, if you’d rather avoid destroying your vehicle and hitting pedestrians, you might be better off just driving yourself. There’s a fairly good chance that these issues will be ironed out in a hotfix further down the line, but for now, our cars are a menace if we give them a mind of their own.
One thing we shouldn’t expect from any future updates is a third-person camera mode. A fan asked for this on social media andwas told that there are no plans to make that happen. This would likely be way too much of an undertaking for a post-launch update, especially sincemost of the team has moved on to Cyberpunk 2 now. Honestly, fans are lucky it’s still being updated at all, considering the game turns five this year. Yes, really. I feel ancient, too.
Cyberpunk 2077’s version 2.3 update is out now. You can nab it on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 at a later date.
