It’s officially unofficial, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting multiplayer.
As fans might recall, Cyberpunk 2077 was always supposed to have a multiplayer component, set to launch after the single-player experience. After the longest saga. Cyberpunk 2077 launched in such a sorry state that PlayStation allowed fans to submit refunds for it, and even delisted the game for a time. While devs fixed the game, the multiplayer release was axed, although itmight be included in the sequel.
Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayerwould have been a standalone release, much like GTA Online.
Thankfully, some fans have picked up where CDPR left off and have been developing their own multiplayer mode for over a year (as spotted byGamingBible).
While it’s been a rocky road for Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer, the modding community wouldn’t let sleeping dogs lie and is working on CyberMP, an unofficial variant of live Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer. CyberMP launched a trailer for the multiplayer mode, and it can be seen below.
CyberMP isn’t available for the public to get their hands on yet, but the CyberMP team consists of ten developers working around the clock to bring multiplayer to Cyberpunk 2077. The mod is currently in beta, and it does as advertised: it lets fans wreak havoc on Night City together.
Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Add Multiplayer, But It’s A Work In Progress
One year ago, CyberMP uploaded a YouTube short saying “Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer is closer than you think,” and today, the mod is still in a beta phase.CyberMP YouTubeposts started around a year ago, in June 2024. The latest video update was around two months ago, and after taking a peek at the official CyberMP Discord, it appears the team of ten developers working on CyberMP still doesn’t have a final version realized yet.
Fans who can’t wait any longer can head to the official Discord of CyberMP (located in the official YouTube channel description) and apply to be a volunteer tester. While this doesn’t guarantee you can try it out or test the beta version of CyberMP, it’s worth a shot for those who have been itching to explore Night City with other human players.
It’s important to note that CyberMP is built by independent creators, so while it isn’t what CDPR planned, it’s an alternative way to check out Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer when there currently isn’t any, and that’s groovy.
