It seems the word has become quite popular after the launch of the game. I don’t mean just as a meme, people are actually looking it up.
According toGoogle Trends, the number of searches for the word ‘Putain’ has significantly risen after the launch of Clair Obscur. As you may see in the chart below, the Interest Over Time for the word goes on an upward arch just around the date the game launched – April 24. It begins rising between April 20 and 26, and peaks somewhere between April 27 and May 3. It seems the word is becoming more popular thanks to the game.
However, if you think this is some kind of freak coincidence or aren’t convinced that it’s because of the game, there’s more proof. The Related Topics and Related Queries segments have the game’s name in it. It’s pretty conclusive that Clair Obscure is the reason for the word’s rise in popularity.
