The purported lack of turn-based RPGsis especially noticeable when it comes to Square Enix. The studio was once the top dog for turn-based RPGs thanks toFinal FantasyandDragon Quest, but that’s faded a lot in recent years with Dragon Quest being missing in action and Final Fantasy moving closer to being an action RPG.

Don’t Worry, Square Enix Is “Aware” Of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Being One Of The Best Turn-Based RPGs Ever

Competition Is A Very Good Thing Indeed

When Clair Obscur showed up basically out of nowhere and reinvigorated the genre, it left a lot of people wondering how Square Enix might react and if it was even bothered by its crown being taken. Well, according to a Twitter user who had a chance to speak at a recent shareholders meeting, Square Enix is indeed “aware” of Clair’s success.

As pointed out by Genki_JPN, Twitter user yuzz__ recently shared that they were able to ask a question during a recent Square Enix shareholders meeting.During the meeting, yuzz_ expressed their “desire"for Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy to be command-based RPGs, and noted the success of Clair Obscur in that field.

In addition, it said that it values the genre and plans to “continue delivering games in this style in the future”.

While Square Enix sadly didn’t say too much more about Clair Obscur’s success, it does at least seem like it has taken stock of how popular it was. That hopefully means we’ll see more turn-based games from it in the near future, although we’ll probably be waiting a while to find out.
