Few things are as fun inmodern video gamesas being able to create your own character. After all,what’s better than being able to insert yourself into a video game?
That said, every now and again, a character creator engine is used for other purposes,like making absolute abominations that send the Internet into laughter. Earlier this year,Monster Hunter Wilds players were creating Yoshi-P in the game, while the remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion ensured that players could make ungodly creations in full HD.
However, when it comes toChrono Odyssey, the in-development MMORPG from Kakao Games, that feature will seemingly be restricted after its CEO witnessed such abominations.
The Results Were “Honestly Heartbreaking,” And There Will Be Limitations In Place
As first spotted by Massively Overpowered, a website dedicated to MMORPG coverage, the game’s CEO, BongGun Bae, took to social media to share his disappointment in the creations of players.
Specifically, the CEO noted that the original plan was to not place any restrictions on players in order to let players' imaginations fly. “We believed that even exaggerated appearances were a player’s choice, and we made the tough decision to allow full freedom,” the post read.
However, via the most recent test, it became apparent that the creations were leaning towards “strange” and “uncomfortable.” So much so that it was “heartbreaking” to see the developers' work distorted in such a way.
Now, moving forward, “meaningful limitations” will be put in place. It’s unclear what those limitations will be, but what is clear is that the team is not interested in abominations running around.
“While we hoped to celebrate players’ creativity in its purest form, reality turned out quite differently,” the post concluded in part.
Reception to the post was somewhat mixed, with some positive arguments being raised for the limitations. Whether that reception sticks is a whole different story.
