It might sound crazy, but we’re inching closer and closer to an entire decade without a newMega Mangame. The last time the Blue Bomber got a new title was 2018,when Mega Man 11 burst on the scene. In the time since then, we’ve gotten multiple “Legacy” collections, including most recently the Battle Network Collection in 2023, but not a single new entry.

Still,Capcomsays that Mega Man is an “important” franchise, even if there’s largely nothing to show for it.As first shared by Genki on Twitter, when asked during a shareholders' meeting about future plans for the franchise, the company had this to say:

The Mega Man series is one of our most important IPs, and we are continuously considering ways to develop it further. However, we do not have any additional information we can share at this time.

Welp.

While it’s nice to know that the franchise is “important,” and that new ideas are being considered, it doesn’t exactly bring any new confidence as to when we might see a new game in the series. In other words, it sounds like Mega Man will continue to be on cameo duty.

Mega Man Is Everywhere Except For In A New Game

For major fans of Mega Man, like this writer, things have not been easy in recent years. Sure, the Legacy compilations have taken some of the sting out of not having a new game, but the beloved character has been largely relegated to cameos and not new adventures.

For instance, Mega Man is the subject of collaborations with both G Fuel and Madrinas Coffee. A year ago,he was one of several cameo characters in Funko Fusion, alongside characters like Colonel Sanders and Scott Pilgrim.

Elsewhere, Mega Man-themed costumes have been constant in Capcom’s other titles, including as recently in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Oh, and lest we forgethis appearance in Secret Level, which clocked in at exactly eight minutes. Sure, it’s nice to see Mega Man in so many different areas, but it would be even nicer to see him in a new game. Guess we’ll have to keep waiting.
