Summary
In case you missed it,Xboxheld its own event on Sunday, dubbed the Xbox Games Showcase. In it, we finally saw thelong-rumored Xbox handheld, receivedconfirmation that a remake of Persona 4 is real, andalso got word about some new DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
That was all well and good, but Xbox decided to close out the show with what appeared to be a brand-new IP, or seemingly a sequel to Quantum Break or The Evil Within, only for it to be revealed as Black Ops 7, this year’s annualized Call of Duty entry.
To put it lightly, fans were less than impressed, and some were even downright upset that the finale of the show wasCall of Duty.
All Things Considered, The Black Ops 7 Trailer Was Actually Pretty Neat
“I was like, ‘OK, what’s that? Looks interesting. Oh, damn, that’s like Inception!! Oh, it’s COD.’ Bamboozled,“one user recalled on Reddit.
Bamboozled is a great way to put things, as many thought this was the “Wow” announcement to close out the show. One person saidthey thought it was Prey 2, while anotherthought it would be The Evil Within 3.
It’s good that others were thinking the same thing, as this writer thought it was a Quantum Break sequel and screamed into the TheGamer Discord only for it to also end up being COD.
“There is no way they got me excited for a COD, until they showed the title card and I fell back asleep,“a user chimed in.
To be fair, COD fatigue notwithstanding, the trailer did look pretty cool. And if you are a COD fan, particularly of Black Ops and its wild lore, then you will have spotted that Mason’s kid is in the same room that his dad was interrogated in. Or, that active camo was part of a blink-and-miss-it shot, which could signal the return of specialists.
“I know Reddit will hate this one, but as someone who returned to COD recently after the latest one was great, this trailer was really fun,“one user added. And that’s exactly what it was at the end of the day. A fun trailer, even if COD has maybe overstayed its welcome.
