Gearbox has said that thehumour in Borderlands 4 will be a bit more refinedthan that of its past few entries. By that, we assumed that the writing would be a bit better and jokes would have some thought put into them. However, it seems the devs meant dialing the toilet humour inBorderlands 4down literally, as the series' most annoying character has his own volume slider in the options menu.
Claptrap, otherwise known as the annoying trash can of the Borderlands series, has a separate volume slider, as revealed by a Twitch partner’s tweet. It seems Gearbox is starting to own the fact that Claptrap is more annoying than funny, and decided to put in a special volume slider for the robot as a gag.
Claptrap Has His Own Volume Slider In Borderlands 4
As spotted byGamesRadar+, a tweet by Twitch partner Chadly has shared a screenshot of the game’s audio options, and right at the bottom is a slider just for ‘Claptrap Volume’. While it’s definitely a trademark Gearbox gag, it’s also very useful for those who find the robot jarringly loud. And I’m sure that’s a lot of people.
There were plenty of comments that were thankful for the option, with one saying “Thank God. I think most people are tired of him.” Others were worried that the devs might have added it in as a joke and it won’t actually do anything. “Plot twist: it doesn’t actually affect how loud he is,” said another.
Unfortunately, I have a feeling that the volume slider will be a joke, with Claptrap probably yelling at you when you try to lower it. We can only hope Gearbox has pity on us and actually made it to function properly.
Narrative director Sam Winkler seems to have added his own little joke into the feature, saying, “I wrote some lines just for this feature and it includes maybe the dumbest most niche reference to a certain terrible accent in a certain classic immersive sim.” He didn’t elaborate, but we assume he’s talking about Gunther from Deus Ex.
