Quick Links
The class system inDune: Awakeningcan be described as uncomplicated depth. There aren’t too many classes, and those classes don’t have a Path of Exile-like number of different skills available in them, but the classes can be combined, meaning there’s an almost endless number of possibilities.
The Trooper class is Dune: Legacy has some of the most destructive options of all of them. For a player focused entirely on using the biggest weapons and the most intimidating displays of force, the Trooper is going to be the perfect class, allowing you to be the firepower focus of your allies.
Trooper Skills Overview
The Trooper class has three different skill trees:Gunnery, Suspensor Training, and Tactical Tech, and you can invest as heavily or as little in each of them as you would like. They all have their own strengths, and builds can either focus heavily into all of them for a big focus, or can diversify and be strong in a few different things.
Description
Gunnery
This tree isfocused entirely on making guns either more effective, or ensuring you need to maintain your weapons less often. If you’re looking to focus entirely on guns, this tree is going to be pivotal for you.
Suspensor Training
This tree isentirely about manipulating movement, either your own or your enemies. While this can be undervalued, for players who use it well, it can be a massive boon in both PvE and PvP.
Tactical Tech
This tree has some good destructive possibilities, but it’s also got somegreat quality-of-life abilities and techniques.
What Are A Trooper’s Strengths?
Troopers excel atdealing a heavy amount of damage to a lot of people at the same time. They may not be able to hit the same kind of single-targetdamage as a Mentat, but they do a better job against multiple targets, and they have some movement options that can help them gain a significant advantage, or put enemies at a significant disadvantage.
Multiple Target Damage
Troopers arevery proficient with heavy weaponry, but they also haveabilities that affect multiple enemies at the same time. This can be in a crowd-control style way with their gravity effects, or in a damaging way with their grenades.
Movement
Troopers have a couple ofmovement abilities/techniques that allow them to maneuver around a fight much more proficientlythan other characters. This can give them creative opportunities for players who make use of it well.
Trooper Synergies
The Trooper synergizes well with a couple of different classes, mostly as a way topush the Trooper’s strengths even further. It’s worth finding the Trainers for these classes and learning a few of their skills, because they can really amp up your Trooper possibilities.
Reason
Mentat
Mentat’s have some gravity manipulation effects similar to the Trooper, but what we’re really after here are theranged damage bonuses that the Mentats also have access to.
Bene Gesserit
The Bene Gesserit class has someskills in the Body Control tree that help their survivability, and that can go a long way for a class that’s as aggressive as a Trooper.
Trooper Mid-Level Build
Starting around level 20, you’ll have enough skill points that you canstart putting a build together that has multiple aspects working in tandem. You’ll be able to accomplish some more impressive feats, and start getting an idea of where you want to take your character in an endgame build.
You can respec your character once every 48 hours with no penalty, so feel free to try things out and experiment; if you make a decision you don’t like, you won’t be stuck with it for long.
Mid-Level Trooper Build Skills
Here are theskills that we found particularly helpfulin a Trooper build:
We’ll be including a couple more abilities than you can use at one time; some of them are for combat, and some are just so convenient when moving around the world that we felt they deserved a mention. You can swap out abilities any time they aren’t on cooldown.
Trooper
Shigawire Claw (Ability)
Starting with possibly the most universally helpful ability in the entire game, the Shigawire Claw is agrappling hook that can either help you climb or launch you into a new location. This can be used when simply getting to new spots, or can be used aggressively.
Explosive Grenade (Ability)
This doesn’t need too much of an explanation:it’s an explosive grenade. It blows things up. It causes fairly good damage, but isa lot more usefulat levels two and threethan it is at level one. This is going to be used in combination with the next ability often.
Collapse Grenade (Ability)
Thispulls enemies toward its center like a black hole. Using this immediately followed by an explosive grenade in the center is going to make for an explosively useful grenade.
Battle Hardened (Technique)
This is going toreduce all of your ability cooldowns. It’s pretty straightforward, helping you get more value out of your abilities, especially the longer the cooldown, because the reduction is percentage-based.
Center Of Mass (Technique)
This is going toincrease your body shot damage, while reducing your headshot damage. It’s easy to keep hits on center mass, and this is going to synergize well with the ability we’ll show next.
Attractor Field (Ability)
This essentially puts a gravity ball on an enemy’s chest;shooting that ball is going to ensure the enemy gets hits. This is absolutely perfect for putting on an enemy before you fire a Scattergun, but it’s good to put on somebody before firing at them with anything.
Ranged Damage (Passive)
A flatranged damage increase; you’ll mostly be using guns, and this is going to help all of them.
Disruptor Damage/Scattergun Damage/Heavy Weapon Damage (Passive)
All of theseincrease the damage of their respective weapons, and you should grab whichever you’re going to get the most use out of, whether it’s one of these or all of these.
Field Maintenance/Gunsmith (Passive)
These are going toreduce the durability loss of weapons over time, by both making sure you need to repair them less often, and reducing the damage done when they are repaired.
The same as the Trooper’s passive, thisincreases ranged damageacross the board.
Trauma Recovery (Technique)
This is a great technique for any character who’s going to be in the thick of it very often. With the Trooper’s focus on fighting multiple enemies, the ability toheal more and heal faster is going to be invaluable.
Thisincreases how much healing items heal.
Tips For Playing A Trooper Build
Troopersexcel at engaging many enemies at the same time, and manipulating the movement of themselves and those enemies. Use that to your advantage; keep enemies from being where they want to be with things like the Collapse Grenade.
At the same time, keep yourself in good positions with the Shigawire Claw. This has a very fast recharge, and you can launch yourself with it further than you would think. Keep getting yourself into spots that makes enemies uncomfortable, and you’re going to be at a serious advantage.
