If you’re finding it hard to progress past the early floors, understanding Tower of Babel’s early mechanics is important, like managing loot and choosing smart upgrades. Below, we’ve compiled essential beginner tips to help you stay alive longer and make every run count.
How To Boost Your Stats
At the camp hub, you can visit theAltar of Blessingslocated just to the left of the main bonfire. It’s similar toHades' Mirror of Nightand lets you upgrade stats. Press E to open the blessing panel, where you canspend accumulated goldto permanently boost stats like Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, or Intelligence.
These bonuses areclass-specific, so if you heavily invest in Intelligence for your Wizard then switch to Warrior, those Intelligence gains won’t carry over.
Upgrading your stats and skills on the altarcosts more goldas you invest more into it, but unlocking higher tiers also gives access to stronger gear. Leveling it up not only boosts your stats, but also unlocks better item drops as a result.
How To Upgrade Your Gear
At your camp hub, head to theBlacksmith’s workshopwhere you’ll find four tabs: Item Upgrades, Gemstones, Jewels, and Runes. Once you’ve gatheredsocketable gearor gems during a run, visit the Gemstones and Jewels tabs to slot enhancements directly into weapons, armor, or accessories.
A goblin NPC maysteal some of your looton death, but most valuable items are protected. If you want stolen gear back, you’ll need to rebuy it from theLost tabin the shop in the main hub.
These provide bonuses likeextra damage, resistances, or lifesteal. In the Runes section, apply runic boosts offering flat stat gains or special effects, such asincreased crit chanceor cooldown reduction. The upcoming Alchemist NPC (in Update 1.4) will let youtransmute surplus gems, jewels, and runes into new ones.
How To Identify Gear
All gear found during a run isautomatically sentto your stash bag and can’t be equipped until you return to camp. If you die mid-run, unidentified items are at risk ofbeing stolenby the goblin looter.
Any gear you’ve already identified will remain safe. That’s why it’s smart to identify your lootas soon as a run ends.
Back at the hub, speak with theMysterious Translatorto reveal an item’s stats and potential bonuses. For especially valuable pieces you don’t want to risk losing, make sure tostore them safelyin your storage chest by the central brazier.
Invest In Resurrection Tokens
Resurrection tokens are avital lifelineyou earn as you level up during your runs. Each token grants one free revive upon death,automatically activatingupon death. Once depleted, you’re out of lives and the run ends, so try to stock up.
When starting out, take spells that hit reliably andscale well with your build.
As the game progresses, you’ll choose between extra resurrections orother powerful skillupgrades. Investing in resurrections early gives you a safety net for difficult floor spikes, but grabbing too many may come at the cost of offensive or defensive boosts. Try abalanced approach, prioritizing one or two tokens early, then switching to DPS, crowd control, or survivability.
Grind Lower Levels If You Feel Stuck
Grinding lower floorsin Tower of Babel isn’t just a fallback; it’s a smart strategy when you’re feeling stuck. Early levels are ideal forcollecting gearand gold without getting overwhelmed. Focus on runs withloot upgradeslike item drop chance, then gather everything you’re able to. Even common gear adds up whensold between runs, giving you the funds to invest in Altar of Blessings upgrades.
These upgrades are permanent per class and will increase yourdamage and survivability. As each stat upgrade becomes more expensive over time, farming lower floors helps you build up the gold needed for real progression.
Pick Up Basic Attack Upgrades Early
When starting a run in Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos, your best bet is to focus on abilities thatenhance your basic attacks. Look for boosts to base damage, critical chance, projectile count, and attack speed. These upgrades provideconsistent DPSacross all classes and lay a strong foundation for your build. Adding an early crowd control ability, likeice orbs or lightning chains, helps manage swarms and gives you more breathing room during early waves.
Once you’ve established some offensive power, focus on survivability. Abilities that offer lifesteal, health regeneration,damage reduction, and evasion are incredibly valuable for sustaining through tougher floors.
Check The Merchant’s New Stock
At the camp hub, always check to see what the merchant is selling. She’s typically in thebottom-left cornerof your map. Be sure to visit after a leveling run: you can inspect her stock, compare it against stash inventory, and swap out older gear.
If she doesn’t have anything worthwhile,finish four level runs, and she’ll offer new weapons and armor. This restocking can be more reliable than gambling on loot drops. Try circling back to herafter boss floorsor higher difficulty runs to maximize your gear chances.
Never Stop Moving
