There are tons of things to find as you smash your way throughDonkey Kong Bananza. Fromspeed-running techniques to skip entire parts of the game, toEaster eggs referencing other titles, there’s tons to find if you’re willing to smash the environment for it. In fact, some are even calling it thebest platformer of all-time.
However, it’s unlikely that everything that the devs have hidden in the game has been found. While players havedestroyed every breakable item or terrain in certain levels, we can’t be certain we’ve found everything unless someone does it for the entire game. Speaking of which, you probably didn’t notice this very on-brand animation detail for DK.
Donkey Kong Just Can’t Stop Eating
As pointed out byLudicrous_redditoron the Donkey Kong subreddit, smashing terrain that’s made out of food will result in a special animation by DK and Pauline, but it’s so quick that you might miss it. Upon breaking the terrain, they will both quickly go into an eating animation, almost as if stuffing their mouths with whatever the terrain was made of.
While there is a special tie that lets you heal when smashing food items, it looks like DK stuffs his face regardless of it. The game is filled with little things like this; while it doesn’t add to the gameplay in any way, it does add to the overall charm of the game. It also falls perfectly in line with Donkey Kong’s character.
Letting all the delicious, giant food go to waste isn’t Donkey Kong’s way. So, it only makes sense that he grabs fistfuls of the terrain to keep his energy up. The same goes for Pauline; singing non-stop like that can be pretty draining.
Players appreciating such a small detail really goes to show how much the community loves the game and the donkey kong series. In fact, in a bid to show how much they love the series, one Donkey Kong Bananza playerspray painted their game card yellow. Unfortunately, they didn’t think this through, as the card is now permanently lodged in the slot of their Nintendo Switch 2.
