The introduction toRune Factory: Guardians of Azumaisn’t afraid to throw quite a few characters at you at once! It’s here that you’ll meet some of the game’s more important people, and Mauro might just be the most important for you if he catches your eye.
Maurois an outsider, a traveller. He’s got an interesting past to uncover and a magnetic personality. If you’re looking to get closer to him - or even romance him, which is possible! - you’ll want to make sure you’re giving him nice gifts and picking the best hangouts to take him on!
Birthday
Summer 18th
When you first begin the game, Mauro, like Hina, will be anchored to the side of the mountainnear your first home in Spring Village. As soon as you’ve progressed the story far enough to be able to get to know the characters and start boosting your bonds with them, you’ll be able to start making friends with Mauro in earnest.
Once you’ve progressed the story enough to unlockSummer Villageas another village under your purview, Mauro will move there. Until then, Mauro can be foundexploring Spring Village most days, and he’ll be right outside your front door when you wake up! Once he’s moved to Summer Village, though, it’s there that you’ll find him on most days.
This doesn’t mean he only stays in Summer Village, though! You can check each village’s map for Mauro’s portrait in the top-right corner to see where he’s currently located each day.
Best Gifts And Hangouts For Mauro
There are a few ways to get closer to any character in Guardians of Azuma who gets their own entry in the Profiles menu. Apart from simplytalking to them once a day and using the Plum Branchon them for tiny, incremental boosts to your friendship, you can also give gifts or go on hangouts with them.
A good tactic is to always go on any hangout with a character if you don’t know whether they like or loathe it yet. These hangouts are denoted withquestion marks. If a character really likes a particular hangout, it’ll be marked with a heart, showing that it’s a great pick for them and will make you even closer than normal.
Loves
Amber
Mauro sure has expensive taste! His Loved gifts are all of the gemstone variety, so it might be quite a while before you have enough of these to feel free enough to give them away in exchange for bond points. As you progress through the game, however, these will become more common and accessible, meaning it’s very easy to give Mauro his most favourite gifts and make him like you. The key isupgrading your hammer and mining in high-level areas.
Likes
Cherry Blossoms
These are obtained from Cherry Blossom trees, which can be found throughout Spring Village.
Wisteria
These are obtained from Wisteria trees, the seeds of which you can obtain later in the game.
Tempura Udon
These dishes are all quite easy to make - Mauro likes basic fried food! Once you have the recipe for one of these, we recommend making a bunch of them to give to Mauro to boost his bond easily. Inari Sushi requires three very easily-acquired ingredients: Steamed Rice, Vinegar, and Fried Tofu.
Inari Sushi
Pressed Sushi
Mauro’s dislikes are mostly of thesquid and octopusrange of meals, so avoid those!
Best Mauro Hangouts
When deciding tohang out with Maurorather than give him gifts, you’ll want to attempt to go for those he likes the most:
Mauro In Combat
Mauro is a very handy ally to have in a fight - he’s aHealer, meaning he can aid you when you get hurt. He’s also aranged fighter, so he’s pretty good at staying out of harm’s way himself. This combination makes him a self-sufficient boon with a ton of value, so it’s a good idea to keep him around and make sure his equipment is updated often!
You can take Mauro out on adventures as soon as you reach the first Bond level with him, which should be really easy considering his accessibility and agreeability.
While Healer is his main role in battle, Mauro also has some neatdebuffing abilities, being able to lower an enemy’s M.ATK or DEF by 30 percent.
As you increase your bond with Mauro, he’ll become even more useful on the battlefield passively! With each level, he’ll get a new bonus:

Increases Mauro’s ATK.
