As you progress through the story ofRune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma, the choices you have for romanceable characters will constantly increase. While a lot of these characters already become a part of the profile section when you meet them, you still won’t be able to progress their bond until a certain point.
Kai is one of the best examples of this since he’s introduced quite early in the story, but his true identity is revealed much later. However, once you unlock this character, you’re able to give him various specific gifts to increase his bond level quickly.

While going through the story of Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma,you’ll first have to solve the crisis in both Spring and Summer villagesso that you may save the gods of these two regions and get them up and running. After that, you can head over to the Autumn village, where you’ll meet Kai during the first few dialogues near Yachiyo’s restaurant.
He’ll play an important role throughout the story of the Autumn Village, and he’ll get unlocked as a character in your profile as well. However, you might not be able to progress much when it comes to bonding with Kaisince a lot of his quests are locked behind the part of the quest where his true identityas the Oni god is revealed.
This happens after you meetall four gods in the main villagesand visit their shrines in the skies.
As you get to know more about Kai, he’ll take you through the underworld area and then become available for proper bonding. However, Kai is one of the most travel-loving characters in the game and you’ll hardly find him in the same area on different days. While his home is in Autumn village, he leaves the area early in the day quite often.
The best way to find Kai as soon as the day starts is by waiting until it’s at least 6:05 AM and then taking a look at the map of different villages. You’ll see his icon at the top right in one of these, which will be your destination. If you do this in the first five seconds of the day, he might show his presence in the Autumn village but you won’t be able to find him there.
Kai can usually be found in the Autumn and Winter village, withhigh chances of him being in the Spring villageas well.
Best Gifts And Hangouts For Kai
The reason you’ll have to meet Kai nearly every day if you want to romance him is that there are a lot of daily activities that increase his bond including theusage of Plum Branch near him, chatting with him, and hanging out with him. The last one can give you up to 24 bond value in a single day if you use it correctly.
When you hang out with Kai, he’ll always have the gifting option with three more random hangout encounters.Each character has specific gifts and hangout encounters that they love, and here’s what you should be looking for when it comes to Kai:
Loves
Meat Skewers
You’ll not be able to unlock Meat Skewers recipe for quite a while in Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma. Once you get it,you may cook it in the dishes tab of the cooking menu.
Oni-Giri
This is a unique recipe that you’re able to make once you reach bond level six on Kai. Head over to any restaurant in the world andcook Grilled Onigiri alongside Kai to get it. You can get the Grilled Onigiri recipe fairly early in the game.
Oni-Giri takes the same ingredients as Grilled Onigiri,making it the best item to give Kaionce you unlock it.
Hellfire Dango
You can get the Sweet Soy Dango recipe by talking to theFrog Statue quest-giver after interacting with a few of them, and this can be converted into Hellfire Dango when cooked with Kai.
Grilled Pike
To get the recipe for this item, you first have to progress the storyuntil you fight the Nine-Tails boss for the first time. It can be found by interacting with the Frag Statue near it.

These are all liquor recipes that can be unlocked with time by completing different quests and claiming their rewards.Divine Spirits will only unlock when you reach bond level tenwith a character and complete all their bond quests.
Spring Kuchikamizake
Silvervine Wine
To get this drink, you’ll have to reach bond level six with Yachiyo in Autumn village. Once that happens,you can convert Azuma Sake into Silvervine Wine by cooking with her, and both of these also take the same ingredients.
Garlic Cutlet
For this recipe, you’ll have to progress until you enter the Underworld area with Kai. Here,you’ll find it beneath an oni boulder on your rightas soon as you enter the area.
Ginger Stir-Fry
The recipe for this can be found by interacting with aFrog Statue on the top right side of the Fishing Islein the skies of Azuma.
Sukiyaki
This is another late-game recipe that you can give Kai once to unlock it in his likes, butit’s not worth giving this to him continuously.
Nature’s Bounty
To get this one, you’ll have to cook Veggie Salad with Pilika once you reach level six with her. However,the amount of ingredients required for this makes it not worth it for Kai.
Meat ‘n Potatoes
You’ll have to reach the Isolated Islet area in the Spring village outskirts tofind this recipe on the first Frog Statue here. Itrequires you to get the Sacred Parasol first.
Best Kai Hangouts
Kai also has a bunch of hangouts that’ll give you higher bond value when you trigger them like “Grab a bite to eat at Yachiyo’s”, “Take a nap together”, “Gush about latest fixation”, and “Discuss combat”.The first hangout appears as an option very commonly, and while it takes away an hour from your day, it’s worth it.
How Kai Works In Combat
Even if you don’t plan on being in a relationship with Kai in Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma, it’s still worth upgrading his bond level as he can serve you in combat as a long sword defender. He can be used in combat after the first bond level, with subsequent skill unlocks with each level:

IncreasesKai’s DEF, letting him tank more damage.

Unlocks the Taunt skill,which takes away the enemy’s aggrofrom you or other team members.

Unlocks the Dark Slash skill, whichtriggers a dark-based slash.

Gives you Kai’s Mask recipe, which can be crafted at a blacksmith.

Unlocks the Outplay skill, whichclaps the enemywith two oni hands.

Unlocks the Battle Cry skill, whichincreases his DEF and taunts nearby enemies. Kai doesn’t flinch in battle during this skill.

Unlocks the Beast Stance skill, whichincreases his ATKby 20 percent.

Unlocks the Get Lost skill, whichspawns an oni hand and launches it in a straight lineto deal damage.

Increases Kai’s ATK.
With his ability to deal high damage and prevent you from taking damage, Kaican be a great teammate against hordes of enemies.
Kai Marriage Guide
After reaching bond level ten with Kai and finishing all his bond quests and dates,you can marry him by growing a Plum Branch and cooking Divine Spirits. Once you have both the items,you can ask him out to the Fateweaver Shrineon the day when you don’t have another date, allowing you to marry him the next day.
After the marriage, he’ll ask you if you want to have kids five days later. If you accept, your kid will be born in another ten days,and the process will be different depending on your character. On the other hand, if you reject his proposal, he’ll bring it up again five days later.
