According to a new report by reputable insider billbil-kun, it seemed as though EA was going to follow in Nintendo’s footsteps and start charging $80 for its premium games. Billbil-kun revealed that Battlefield 6 was going to launch at €80, and given EA’s reluctance to implement regional pricing on its titles, it was suggested that we’d see Battlefield 6 launch for $80 and £80 respectively.
EA Hints That Battlefield 6 May Not Cost $80
While it’s possible EA originally planned for the game to cost $80, it looks like this may no longer be the case.In a new tweet by The Game Awards creator and Muppets enjoyer Geoff Keighley, he says that EA CEO Andrew Wilson has no plans to make any dramatic changes in “pricing for frontline games”.
It doesn’t mention Battlefield 6 directly, and the term “dramatic changes” gives EA a lot of leeway, but this does suggest that the game won’t be launching with an $80 price tag as first feared. In fact, this also suggests that EA isn’t planning on joining Nintendo in releasing its biggest games for $80 just yet, which is becoming a common theme among big publishers right now.
Xbox recently raised eyebrows bywalking back its decision to release The Outer Worlds 2 for $80, while 2K and Gearbox werealmost definitely toying with the idea of giving Borderlands 4 the same price tagduring that whole Randy Pitchford backlash saga. It seems as though publishers are realizing that only a select few companies can get away with charging that much for their games these days, but that could very well change in the future.
