It’s safe to say thatBattlefield 6’scinematic reveal trailerhas already made a splash.
The two-minute-long video featured explosions, a loose sense of narrative, and more explosions. Although a lot of players might dismiss a flashy cinematic trailer without any gameplay, there have been more than enough leaks from the ongoing Battlefield Labs playtest to give everyone an idea of what to expect from the upcoming game.
Old Fans, or New Ones?
Fans appear to be excited, and, according toAlinea Analytics, the series might be bringing back a lot of old fans. According to the data, Battlefield 6 has already racked up over 500,000 wishlists on Steam since the announcement trailer. Interestingly, 40 per cent of these players do not own Battlefield 2042.
There’s clearly a lot of fans returning from Battlefield 2042, but what of the other 40 per cent? These are players who either skipped Battlefield 2042, or are completely new to the series.
There’s a general sentiment within the community that Battlefield 6could be a “return to form"for the series, with some playtest players comparing the playing experience to the heyday of Battlefield 4, which was released over a decade ago, though not everyone is convinced.
One of the most praised aspects of Battlefield 6, prevalent in both the cinematic trailer and playtest footage, is the emphasis on fully destructible environments. The idea of having a fresh map gradually explode and crumble as a game wears on is as compelling as it’s ever been.
This also feeds into the immersion aspect of Battlefield, which was lacking in 2042. If you’re playing as infantry, then you should be able to feel the chaos of the battlefield, with visceral explosions and air support jetting past overhead.
The cinematic trailer provided some context for the war that underpins Battlefield 6: disgruntled former NATO states have funded a paramilitary company called the Pax Armata which is now warring with the remainder of NATO.
A full multiplayer reveal is set to air on July 31, giving us further context on what to expect from the upcoming shooter.
