EA has finally unveiledBattlefield 6with a thrilling launch trailer, giving us our best look yet at the single-player campaign.

It begins with the fictional US president discussing a “monstrous unprovoked attack” by the Pax Armata mercenaries, who are bankrolled by former NATO states seeking to plunge the world into global conflict. Interspersed with this speech are shots of soldiers fighting in the streets ofwhat looks to be Los Angeles, as bridges and skyscrapers are blown to smithereens amid the chaos.

Destructible environments are at the forefront of this sequel.

While there’s still no release date, leaks surfaced last night that EA is eyeing an October 10 launch, and thatit might cost as much as $80— a price tag so controversial that only yesterday,Xbox entirely walked back plans to sell its first-party holiday releases at that figure.

In the meantime, there are rumours of an open beta, and you can look forward to a multiplayer reveal next week on July 31 at 7:30am BST. But the trailer already gave us some idea of the grandiose scale of the game, with tanks, fighter jets, trench warfare, miniguns mounted in helicopters, and dogfights in urban subways all on display.

What We Know About Battlefield 6 So Far

The Redwood-based publisher first announced the game in February, alongside a new coalition of developers, dubbed ‘Battlefield Studios’ — comprised of DICE, Motive, Criterion, and Ripple Effect. They have been tasked with getting the series back on track, with what EA is calling “the most ambitious title in the series' history”.

So, we have a decent idea of what Battlefield 6 might look like, from destructible environments to customisable classes. There are even murmurs of a battle royale mode, whichEA hopes will help to bring in 100 million players, making it a Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone competitor. However, it’s worth taking all of these leaks with a grain of salt, as many of them stem from in-dev playtests. But it won’t be long before we hear more about the game from EA itself, putting to bed (or confirming) the countless rumours that have cropped up in recent weeks.
