Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3’s Honour Mode iscruel and unforgiving. We’ve heard plenty of horror stories about how these challenge runs have come to an end, whether it’smaking a regrettable choice in the bedroom, orruining Withers' party in the epilogue camp. However, we have a new contender for one of the wildest ways someone has lost their Honour Mode run - it started raining.
In a typical playthrough, we probably don’t pay much attention to the wet condition. Most of us are aware that it slows you down for a few turns, which makes it a bit annoying to walk around. But in Honour Mode, it can make or break your run, thanks to the fact that it makes you more vulnerable to lightning damage.
One player just found this out the hard way and has shared their story to warn others not to make the same mistake. It happened duringthe Act 3 boss battle against Ansur, costing them a 50-hour run.
So, let’s break this down. It’s raining in the Ansur fight, which, in Honour Mode, will give you the wet condition. This is annoying enough, but it slipped the player’s mind that this will make everyone getting rained on vulnerable to lightning damage - which is exactly what Ansur deals with his Stormheart Nova attack.
They had the right idea by having Karlach drink an elixir of lightning resistance. Karlach is good and taking hits as it is, so surely with the extra resistance, she could survive a blast from Ansur, right? Well… no. Because she had the wet effect (ha), she was more vulnerable to the attack, and the elixer wasn’t enough for her to tank it. So, she went down alongside all of the other companions, bringing this Honour Mode run to a sad, soggy end.
At the very least, it’s something that they and the rest of the community can learn from. Truly, everything is out to get you when you try and beat this challenge run. Never let your guard down - and always bring a brolly.
