Ever sinceLarian Studiosreleased modding tools forBaldur’s Gate 3, there has been one custom campaign that the community has really been looking forward to.Path to Menzoberranzan, a project to recreate the second game, hasslowly been sharing updatesand has alsogrown in scale over the last few months. The project has now reached a major milestone with its first playable build.

We’ve been following the project since it started impressing fans last year, and it seems like things are going pretty well for the dev team. Since it’s a fan project, the timelines aren’t exactly hard and fast, but project lead Lotrich has revealed that they’ve finally achieved a working build for the project.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Fan Project Path To Menzoberranzan Now Has A Working Build

“We’ve made big strides on the starting location,” said Lotrich on Discord (viaVideoGamer). “The build includes combat, dialogues, companions, and a slice of the story to dive into. However, this is an internal build which won’t be shared with fans, but will “provide a solid foundation for our first demo in the future”.

The team is also busy trying to figure out the custom music for the project, which has been a problem for the team for a while. While they’ve been able to work around Baldur’s Gate 3’s modding tools, the music part of it seems to be a lot harder to figure out.

There is no release date for the custom campaign yet, but given that it’s a fan project, it could be some time before we’ll be able to play it. While a mid-2025 release date for the first demo was announced, there have been significant changes to the team as well as the entire scope of the project. We’ll likely see that demo in late-2025 or early 2026.

In the project’slast big update, the team showed off the opening area from Baldur’s Gate 2, Irenicus' Dungeon. “We are revisiting Irenicus' dungeon over a hundred years later,” said the project lead at the time. “And we will see that things are quite eerily the same but also very, very different.”
