When you talk about tough combat encounters inBaldur’s Gate 3, the likes of Raphael, Ansur, and even the Netherbrain come to mind. However, those encounters are pretty straightforward – whittle down the bad guy’s health. You’ve probably replayed BG3 enough times to know exactly how to level up your characters in order to make these fights trivial.

However, encounters truly get difficult when you’re dealing with a large number of enemies. There aren’t too many occasions where the game overwhelms you with sheer numbers, but The House of Grief stands out as one of the most difficult fights, even more so in Honour Mode. The place is filled with enemy NPCs, some of which attempt to rush you, while others drain your party’s health from afar.

So That’s How It Got Its Name

“The House of Grief is probably the hardest straight up fight in the game - if you take it as a straight up fight,” said a comment on a Reddit post of someone who underestimated it. “Spam crowd control as much as possible. There are so many enemies that this will make it a lot simpler. I like upcast create water into an ice spell. Everyone will be slipping. This also has the bonus of making everything wet for double lightning damage,” they advised.

Of course, whenever there’s a crowd – or even if there isn’t – you’ll be tempted to launch a fireball at the enemy. That’s not a bad idea at all; in fact, it’s one of the rare occasions where fireball might actually be warranted. A lot of other comments recommended using ice to make the enemies slip as well.

If you still haveShadowheart’s Divine Intervention, The House of Grief is the perfect place to use it. Cast Sanctuary before heading into the fight and watch a handful of Sharrans getting wiped out by radiant damage.

Another popular strategy is to draw them into a narrow space where their numbers don’t matter, much like in 300. You can then start picking them off with whatever spells or weapons you have at hand.
