There are many ways to win a combat encounter inBaldur’s Gate 3. From simply lobbing a fireball to making Lae’zel attack four times in a row, the options are limitless if you’ve mastered all the game’s tools. However, the same can’t be said for AI-based NPCs who you sometimes have to fight along with, especially if you need to keep them alive or save them.

For instance, it’s almost like Isobel wants to get captured by Flaming Fist Marcus during the encounter in the Last Light Inn in Act 2. While your party is tasked with protecting her, the game is actively working against you andIsobel’s AI seems to have no self preservation instinct at all.

Isobel’s AI Wants To Get Kidnapped In Baldur’s Gate 3

As pointed out byByzantineBasileuson Reddit, the encounter at the Last Light Inn occurs quite suddenly, giving you no time to prepare or prepare any spell slots. If you were out exploring the Shadow-Cursed Lands, there’s no doubt that you would have lost some HP or used up some spells, so you might find yourself unprepared for the fight. However, Isobel’s AI does you no favours either.

“Additionally, even if you were prepared, Isobel’s AI is so bad one gets the impression she wants to be captured,” they continued. “You cast invisibility or sanctuary on her, and she will break it by performing an action. She will run past rows of enemies so they can get opportunity attacks. Finally, when she is knocked out, you don’t get any chance to stop her from being kidnapped. It just goes straight to a cutscene.”

“To me it’s fine that they don’t foreshadow it, I really liked the encounter from a story POV,” said one of the comments. However, Isobel running from one group of mobs, taking two attacks of opportunity, running away from my party directly into more enemies was kind of weird."

As for how the situation could have been slightly improved, one player suggested that “Jahiera to offer you a quick rest at the last light when you talk to her and for it to be treated like a short rest so you could at least get some health and actions back.”
