While most of us struggle with even choosing the rude dialogue option in games, there are those that love going entire evil playthroughs.Baldur’s Gate 3is great for this, because even the evil playthroughs have levels. WhileDark Urgeis the origin evil character, you may also be evil as Tav or any of the other companions.

Of course, the definitions of good and evil can be debated til we get Baldur’s Gate 4, but one fan has explained why doing an evil run withGalemight just be the most evil, depending on the game’s definition of it. While Durge lets you play as a murder hobo, Gale’s evil run is actually helped by the game’s events and interactions.

Gale Is More Evil Than Durge

Over on Reddit,-Zima_Blue-explains,“obviously committing horrible acts of gorey, senseless violence throughout the game and eventually committing omnicide in the name of Bhaal is hard to beat, but to me that is essentially the murder hobo run, and there is one very important point the conclusion of an evil Durge run that makes me prefer Gale over it: You are still loyal to Bhaal.”

They went on to explain that, for each of the companions, freedom was a big motivator, “Gale and Mystra. Wyll and Mizora. Karlach and Zariel” and so on. Their good ending sees them breaking their shackles. That’s why Durge’s submission to Bhaal still leaves him as a slave. But Gale’s case is different because of the opportunities the game gives him to break free.

“I believe so much content in the game, and interactions he has, lend themselves to this idea. Recklessly gathering power to gain freedom. Even in his backstory he seeks Netherese magic to gain power,” explained -Zima_Blue-. “Sure, he does it to gain favour with Mystra, but it shows his attitude towards power, arrogantly thinking he can handle it.”

“When left to his own devices, in an origin run,” they continued, “You can indulge in Illithid powers, read the necromancy of Thay, absorb the shadow weave, create the shadow lantern, and eventually reforge the crown of Karsus to attain godhood and choose to defy Mystra, gaining absolute freedom while indulging in every forbidden power possible.”

They concluded by saying that while Gale may not go around murdering everyone like Durge would, he definitely “encapsulates the “evil” elements better that Larian laid for us, and aligns more with the story themes.”
