It appears PlayStation has quietly discontinued the online service for the 2014 racing titleAssetto Corsa, and fans fear that theXboxservers could be the next target. Earlier today, fans took to thePSN Profiles forums(spotted byDelisted Games) to reveal they were no longer able to utilize Assetto Corsa’s servers, despite the title still being officially listed on the NAPlayStation Store.
While PlayStation still doesn’t have a disclaimer on the official product page for Assetto Corsa on its North American storefront, theJapanese PlayStation Store pagefor the title reads: “Online service for this game has ended. Please note that content using network functions is currently not available,” when put through Google’s translation service.
Forum user HuntingFever said the servers have indeed been deactivated without warning, and even owning a physical copy won’t help. They said, “I just checked on my vanilla copy and, yup, the servers are apparently gone. Even the preset lobbies disappeared”, confirming that all online components are gone. The server shutdown has since been corroborated by other users on the PS Profiles Forums, with fans lamenting the end of an era.
Fans also have concerns about another platform - Xbox. While PlayStation fans are calling the sudden shutdown “disappointing”,TrueAchievementsworries that an unannounced Xbox shutdown could happen next (stopping players from earning a complete 1000 gamer score). On the flip side, at least the servers for Assetto Corsa on Steam are held together by a vibrant modding community, and the title appears to have no signs of slowdown, with new community racing leagues hitting the pavement on July 27.
The End Of A 10-Year Online Run For Assetto Corsa On PlayStation
With the release ofAssetto Corsa EVO in 2024, the console server support for the original has been on borrowed time, but fans are more upset that the server closing was done without any advanced warning. The North American PlayStation Store still lets you purchase the game for $29.99 without letting potential customers know that the servers are down (as of this posting), and Xbox could be the next victim.
While Xbox fans should probably prepare for the game’s eventual server closure, there’s still a very tight-knit community held together over on Steam in case anyone wants to hit the tracks of the 2014 classic once again. Until then, those of you who haven’t earned the “Online!” achievement for Assetto Corsa and don’t want to ruin your chances of full completion on the Xbox platform should go take a lap online quickly before time is up.
