Summary
A reliable insider has reported thatAssassin’s Creed Shadows' rumoured co-op mode is still a ways off and not launching this year, while Claws of Awaji is planned for a September release.
Considering how talked-about, delayed, and anticipated the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows was, it’s a little wild to think thatwe’re coming up on three months since the game first dropped. We’ve known for some time thatUbisoft plans to support Shadows with more DLC and updates after its release, but one of the biggest additions still hasn’t been confirmed.
I am, of course, talking about therumoured co-op mode that would let two players run around Feudal Japan together. This was reported by Insider Gaming some time ago,and there’s been evidence in the game’s files to suggest that it’s actively being worked on, but it seems that it might still have a ways to go until it’s implemented.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Reportedly Won’t Get Its Co-Op Mode Until 2026 At The Earliest
That’s A Long Time To Wait To Play With A Friend
Earlier today,Insider Gaming shared an exclusive report that reveals some details about Assassin’s Creed Shadows' post-launch plans. The biggest bit of news is regarding the rumoured co-op mode, which is codenamed “LEAGUE”. Insider Gaming’s sources say the mode is still in development and is planned to release “sometime next year”.
While many assumed that mode would let you play as Naoe and Yasuke, it appears that’s not “entirely accurate”. One of Insider Gaming’s sources claimed that there’s a “deeper narrative” in the co-op mode that extends beyond the protagonists that we already know, which could indicate other playable characters.
As exciting as a co-op Assassin’s Creed Shadows sounds, I do wonder if many players will be interested in returning a full year after the original game released.
Beyond the rumoured co-op mode being pushed back a little (not that it really had a date anyway, but you know what I mean), the other scoop from Insider Gaming is thatClaws of Awaji, the first expansion for Shadows, is targeting a September launch. That date could change to as late as October, which is certainly a bit further out than most of us were expecting. Still, at least it’ll be free for all players to enjoy after the third delay.
