As video game development costs continue to reach new peaks,Ubisofthas confirmed the massive budget behindAssassin’s Creed Shadows, and the figure is over nine digits high.

As fans who have rolled credits will tell you, there were a lot of people involved in bringing Assassin’s Creed Shadows. In fact, the credits roll on for two hours in total. With that in mind, was there any doubt that Shadows cost a fortune?

If there was doubt, it had just been put to rest.A recently released financial call—featuring the bigwigs at Ubisoft and led by CEO Yves Guillemot— has confirmed what fans already knew, that Assassin’s Creed Shadows cost over 100 million euros to wrap development. How much over that figure was not confirmed.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Cost Over 100 Million Euros To Make

The most recent financial earnings call (as reported byTweakTown) had Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot attach a loose figure to the development costs of Shadows. “We don’t disclose production costs, it did cost over 100 million euros, we’ll say that,” he said. Given the wording here, we shouldn’t expect a final confirmation in the future.

As for the reasoning behind development costs being that high, Guillemot claims they’ve heavily invested in Assassin’s Creed Shadows' engine, so that could be a reason as to why development costs are so high. That, or the “mile-long” credits fans have already complained about.

What’s interesting is that development and updates for Assassin’s Creed Shadows are continuing, so the title’s cost may continue to climb over the mysterious “over 100 million” figure. Recently, Ubisoft launched a new difficulty called “Nightmare Difficulty” at no extra cost to players in Shadows, despite company employees suggesting in-gamemicrotransactions help players “experience more fun,” which was ironically also said in a financial earnings call.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched in March of this year. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, making it the first game in the series to miss PS4 and Xbox One.
