According to Variety, the long-reported live-actionAssassin’s Creedseries is now officially moving forward atNetflix, nearly five years after it was first reported.

As you’d expect from one of the biggest gaming franchises out there,Assassin’s Creed has had more than its fair share of adaptations. We’ve seen books, animated shows, and even alive-action film starring Michael Fassbender that didn’t really go anywhere. The one place Assassin’s Creed hasn’t ventured toyetis a streaming service.

For years now, it’s beenconfirmed that Assassin’s Creed would eventually be showing up on Netflixwith a live-action series of its own. Despite Ubisoft officially announcing the news several years ago, we’ve heard nothing about the project since then, with only insider rumours to give us any updates. That’s finally changed.

Assassin’s Creed’s long-awaited Netflix series is finally moving ahead

What’s the bet that it focuses on Ezio?

Earlier today,Variety reported that Netflix is finally making some momentum with the live-action Assassin’s Creed series. Variety notes that the series is moving forward at Netflix after the original deal was announced several years ago. The live-action series has gone through multiple teams and changes in that time, but it’s now set with Roberto Patino and David Wiener on board.

We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed opens to us. Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story — about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith. - Roberto Patino and David Wiener

Outside of the team working on the adaptation, not much is known about the live-action Assassin’s Creed series. The only information we have comes from the official logline, which notes that it’s “centred on the secret war between two shadowy factions”, which pretty much describes every Assassin’s Creed.

With episodes of the show only just being ordered after years of development, it doesn’t seem likely that we’ll hear too much more about the Assassin’s Creed series for some time. Still, for everyone waiting on news regarding the show, it’s good to know that it’s finally moving forward.
