Summary
While we likely won’t be playingAssassin’s Creed Hexe until potentially 2027, it appears that we now have our first plot details about the next mainlineAssassin’s Creedtitle, and let’s just say, you’ve likely heard these story beats before.
As shared on Twitter by a purported Ubisoft partner, BunnyTheVillain, on Twitter, Hexe will feature a “dark and haunting tone,” where Elsa, who will be the game’s protagonist, is on a quest for revenge for her mother, who was executed during the witch trials.
Back in 2024,it was shared by Insider Gaming that the protagonist would indeed be named Elsa, and that she would have access to some sort of supernatural powers. That those powers and her motivation have to do with witch trials seems pretty plausible. Either way, the idea that it’s yet another revenge story does have fans rolling their eyes, and the game hasn’t even come out yet.
It’s Not Assassin’s Creed Or Ubisoft Without A Revenge Plot, It Seems
“An Assassin’s Creed that starts with the protagonist’s family getting killed? Daring today aren’t we?“one user cheekily wrote on Reddit in response to the alleged leak.
Whether it’s as far back as Ezio or as recent as Naoe, Assassin’s Creed games have largely featured some sort of revenge theme, making the prospect of a similar plotline a little nauseating to think about.
“Let me guess and there is gonna be like 12 members that work in that Order that you have to kill one by one, and you probably discover clues along the way that help you track that member to get revenge,“another user wrote, pointing to the franchise’s gameplay loop.
“Ubisoft and revenge is like Bethesda and you being a prisoner,“one person wrote. Ouch. It hurts because it’s so accurate. If it’s any consolation,we’ll seemingly be playing a Black Flag remake first before Hexe, so there will at least be a pause in revenge.
