Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag’supcoming remake is probably the worst-kept secret in the games industry at the moment, up there with the Final Fantasy 9 remake.It was first claimed to exist all the way back in 2023,and tipped for a release rather soon, possibly even later this year. Most recently,a popular statue maker alluded to its existence during a livestream.
It’s almost definitely a real thing at this point, and now we’ve had our biggest hint that something is on the horizon, courtesy of Edward Kenway actor Matt Ryan. In a video recentlyuploaded to TikTok by a user called Therebelarchive, Ryan can be seen signing a sealed Edward Kenway Funko Pop box at what appears to be Nightmare Weekends Chicago last May, and the comments he made during that signing have raised some eyebrows.

While he’s writing on the box, Ryan asks the fan whether he’s beaten the game before, to which he replies yes. He then looks up with a wry little smile and says “Well, you might have to beat it again”. It could be seen as a throwaway line, egging on a fan to play the game he’s in. It would be pretty typical, though Ryan follows up with something even more mischievous.
After the fan says that he wants to run through all the Assassin’s Creed games again, Ryan gestures to the box he’s signing and says “especially this one”. He then says “there’s a reason I say that, but I can’t say anything”, which is quite possibly the least subtle tease about a remaster/remake that I’ve heard in quite some time. Ryan is out here giving the game away.
Unfortunately, Ryan stays true to his word and keeps his lips sealed for the rest of the signing, but that comment was more than suspicious enough to suggest something Black Flag-related is coming. We just need that official announcement now, but with all the big summer showcases having gone, it’s a complete mystery as to where it could show up.
