The sequel tothe hit military sim series, Arma 4,is still a couple of years away from launch, and right now, we know very little about the game. But in Mirko Minenza’s recent tour of the studio, executive producer Natalia Agafonova might’ve just casually let slip where it takes place.

“There is a part at around five minutes where the executive producer shows the interviewer a meeting room with a mural that is an ‘Arma map of the Cold War’. The EP then says if you look very carefully you will find an island on the mural that isn’t there in real life,“u/LuckyGunz pointed outon r/arma. “The interviewer correctly points out an island north of Poland and southeast of Sweden that doesn’t exist [in real life]. The EP says that she cannot confirm or deny and to wait for Arma 4 to find out.”

Fictional map of the world on the wall of Bohemia Interactive, next to an Operation Flashpoint map of Nogova island.

This confirms the rumours that Arma 4 will take place during the Cold War.

It “could all be a troll from the EP for the interview”, but it sure sounds like they’re teasing the setting—a fictional Polish island. That might not sound like much to go on, but fans quickly started digging into the series' history in the hopes of finding where this island might be, and if they’re right, it could be a deep-cut reference to Arma’s beginnings: Operation Flashpoint.

“Wonder If We Will Get The Whole Island Or Not”

As noted by u/AugCph, “The outline of the island looks a lot like Nogova”, a former Soviet Union outpost that was included with the Resistance expansion pack for Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. As u/LuckyGunz said, it “even has the little island to the southwest”.

However, there are a couple of major holes in this theory. Everon and Malden aren’t anywhere to be seen, despite Nogova being described as “due west” and “not far from the Malden islands” in Operation Flashpoint. That would make sense, though, since Nogova is located in the mid-Atlantic as per Arma 3 and Reforger, not the North Sea. Simply put, unless the island has up and moved—or Bohemia is retconning the last two games—it can’t be Nogova.

Regardless, we have what appears to be a location. If this is in fact a tease, then Arma 4 seems to be taking us to a fictional Polish island in the throes of the Cold War. Whether that island is a brand-new addition to the world of Arma, or a familiar locale we’ve already visited—or at least heard about—is unclear.
