For some time now,Amazonhas been an absolute godsend for shoppers. After all, where else can you get a pair of Sonic the Hedgehog-themed sneakers at a heavily discounted price? That’s not to mention the ability to get things like toilet paper delivered the very same day.
That said, if you’re aNintendogamer, then Amazon has been less than useful lately. Between not being able to order aNintendo Switch 2console,along with the general lack of major Nintendo games, things have been less than ideal as of late. Now, it appears the reason behind that has been revealed.
Nintendo And Amazon Apparently Have Some Beef They Need To Work Out
In a new report published by Bloomberg(paywalled), it’s revealed that the reason behind a lack of Nintendo products and consoles on the Amazon storefront has to do with a “disagreement” over “unauthorized sales.”
Specifically, Nintendo allegedly took issue with third-party sellers offering video games at prices that “undercut” the recommended retail price set forth by the company. These sellers were apparently purchasing games in bulk from Southeast Asia and then importing them to the U.S. for sale.
In a bid to prevent Nintendo from pulling its products, Amazon allegedly offered to label its games with an authenticity mark, though it appears the company ultimately had no interest in biting.
The report would suggestwhy pre-orders for Metroid Prime 4 were ultimately canceled earlier this year, even as the game is set for release relatively soon, along withprior cancellations of Luigi’s Mansion 2 and the Paper Mario Remake. That said,pre-orders for Donkey Kong Bananza were recently opened, suggesting a smoothing of the sides.
For its part, both companies flat out denied and disputed the contents of Bloomberg’s report, though never shared an exact reason as to what was happening. Ultimately, only time will tell whether Nintendo makes a full return to Amazon, though some groundwork is seemingly being laid.
