If there’s one certainty in thePokemon Trading Card Game Pocketworld, it’s that players will use the brief teasers from the trailers for upcoming sets to plan their decks for the game’s next expansions and to predict its meta. We’ve seen it before with almost every expansion, with players most recently predictingEspeon and Umbreon from Eevee Grove would spell the end for DarkTina, that theUltra Beasts from Extradimensional Crisis would break the meta, andCelestial Guardians' Rare Candy would change things forever. Two out of three ain’t bad.
Unsurprisingly, withthe Wisdom of Sea and Sky finally taking the digital TCG to Johto, players have begun predicting the next set of meta changes, and there could be a few.
The Wisdom Of Sea And Sky Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket Predictions Are Rolling In
The Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion is undoubtedly set to become one of TCG Pocket’s most opened. Players have been yearning for Johto since the game was released last year, and the theories rolling in only serve to show how excited players are.
One of the most commonly conceptualized cards is Ho-Oh ex, and how it can be used. It was immediately pointed out that it has perfect synergy with Lugia ex, but other players have suggested thatit will work perfectly with other Dragon-type Pokemon. Unfortunately, it faces a major problem in that its Phoenix Turbo move can only attach energy toBenched Basic Pokemon, leaving them susceptible to Sabrina, Mars, and the plethora of Pokemon that can snipe the bench, plus the newly revealed Umbreon ex, which can switch any benched Pokemon to the active spot.
Umbreon ex’s Dark Chase ability has made it one of the most exciting cards of the new expansion. Players are already figuring out how they can fit it into existing decks, withsome optingfor an Eeveelution-focused spread, whileothers have suggestedthat a combination of Umbreon ex, Darkrai ex, and Greninja could be the new meta.
Other cards tipped for action areCleffa, who could replace Sylveon ex in certain scenarios, andRescue Scarfbecoming a new top-tier Pokemon Tool.
Of course, there are dozens of cards yet to be revealed, so there’s plenty more meta-shifting that can take place, but as is so often the case, it’s hard not to get excited.
