Creating a thriving colony inRimworldhinges on understanding and optimisation. One aspect of this is how you build your base. It’s tempting to chuck everything inside one big room - it’s a roof over the pawns' heads, right? What more could they need?
Well, it turns out, quite a bit more than just a roof. Room types in Rimworld are crucial to understand if you want to keep your pawns happy and efficient. From the humble bedroom offering a much-needed rest, to the intricate hospital crucial for mending wounds, knowing the purpose and ideal setup for every space is key to a harmonious and efficient settlement.
All Room Types
There’s quite a host of rooms in Rimworld. They will be ‘created’ when a room (an enclosed space with a roof) contains thecorrect furnitureinside.
It is possible for a room to havemultiple uses- for example, a room with a bed and a table in it will technically beboth a Bedroom and a Dining Room. However, certain rooms are singular and should be kept separate. It’s important to check on your production items (such as crafting stations and research benches) to see if they will be working at maximum efficiency within the rooms they are placed in.
Bedroom/Barracks
None
Any bed or sleeping spot. The room will be a Bedroom if there is only one bedorif there are multiple beds shared by a couple or parents and children.
Dining Room
Table. Pawns will get a mood bonus when eating at a table.
Kitchen
Any Stove or Butcher’s Table. Cooking and butchering in a Kitchen will be more efficient.
Workshop
Any Production furniture (apart from Research-based ones). Jobs carried out in a Workshop are more efficient than outside.
Laboratory
Research Benches and certain Biotech items. Jobs carried out in a Laboratory are more efficient than outside.
Hospital
The same as Bedrooms/Barracks, but with beds reserved for patients or specific Hospital Beds. Efficiency and effectiveness are based on the beds, not on being in a specific room.
