Have you ever thought that the potato-shaped entities known as Pests inAbiotic Factorwere kind of cute? Maybe you like the way they fling themselves through the air while trying to attack you, or just scoot around when they’re minding their business.
If you have, or just want a pet of any kind to come home to after a long day of fighting and salvaging, you’re in luck. It’s possible to tame Pests, but you’ll need a few specific items to do so: a trap to safely contain them in, and one of their favorite foods. If everything works out, you’ll have a little buddy to name and cherish or send into battle against your enemies.
How To Craft A Pest Trap
To get a Pest as a pet, you’ll first need tocraft a Pest Trap, and itrequires three resourcesto craft: a Stapler, two Duct Tapes, and Nachos. TheStapler and Duct Tapeare easy to get, as you can find plenty of theminside or on desks in the Office Sector, such asat the Data Farm.
TheNachos are more difficult to obtain, and finding themrequires story progression, as theearliest placethey can be found is in theworld of Flathill.
Make sure tosave three of the Nachos for when you attempt to catch the Pest, or ensure you’ve gotten some Anteverse Wheat from Anteverse IIfor the taming process.
When you’ve completed the tasks in Flathill or opened the shortcut back to the Portal to GATE, you canbring the Nachos back with you, and you’ll be ready tocraft a Pest Trap at any powered Crafting Bench.
How To Capture And Tame A Pest
Now that you’ve got the Pest Trap, it’s time to find a Pest, andthree of the four varietiesof themcan be trapped: regular, Electro, and Volatile.
TheOffice Sectoris filled with them, but theeasiest locations to tame onewithout interference areBio Lab Dand thekitchen adjacent to the Cafeteria, as otherenemies like Peccaries rarely spawn there, even if you’ve progressed the story.
Crouch down andsneak over to where a Pest is, then place thetrap near or in its path, making surenot to aggro it, as a hostile Pest can’t be luredinto the trap. As long asyou aren’t seen, thePest will wander insideand then get captured.
Pests that roam or wander around a small area are easier to tame since you can wait for them to pass, place the trap in their path, and hidewithout them seeing and aggroing onto you accidentally.
Once thePest is insidethe Pest Trap, thedoor will automatically shut. Put either theNachos or Anteverse Wheat in your hotbar, and you’ll now get aprompt to feedthem.
Feed them eitherthree Nachos or three Anteverse Wheat to tamethem, and upon taming, aline of blue hearts will float upfrom the Pest Trap, signifying you have a new friend: a tamed Pest.
Release it from the trap, and you can noworder it to follow you or stay and patrolthe nearby area, pet it, or ask it toreturn to a Pest Cagefor safekeeping.
What Can Tamed Pests Do?
Besides being a cute companion and anally who will attack anythingthat tries to attack you, Pests can alsogenerate some electricityfor you with thePest Wheelonce that recipe has been unlocked.

Pest Wheels are essentially giant hamster wheels, and you canconnect anything that requires power to themin the same way you would connect them to a power outlet, thenorder your Pest to run on the wheel.
Youonly need one Power Cell to repair the forklift and open the way to Manufacturing West, so you’ll have two left over from the first Flathill tripto use on anything else.
As long as thePest is running, the Wheel willgenerate enough electricityto power any object, making itincredibly useful during the nightwhen the power goes off, and you stillneed to do some crafting or cooking.
