Crafting and using a bunch of makeshift tools and weapons from office supplies inAbiotic Factoris how you start, but the enemies you’ll encounter will get tougher, and an upgrade to your ranged arsenal will be helpful. It won’t be something you craft, though.

Locked up tight in the main Security Office is probably one of the last remaining guns in GATE that isn’t held by a hostile force, or probably in the stomach of a creature that ate some poor security guard. You’ll want everything you may get your hands on while you try to escape, so it’s time to get hacking and get that gun.

How To Get Into The Security Office

TheSecurity Pistol is the first gunyou have access to, but it’sinside a shooting range in the locked Security Officeon Level Two, and to get inside, you’llneed a Keypad Hackerthat has the baseLevel One Clearance.

The Keypad Hacker isrequired to progress in the story, and there aretwo ways to get the recipefor it: you canunlock the recipefor it and its components byspeaking to Dr. Mayfield on Level Three, or by discovering it byfinding or crafting the components needed to make ityourself.

It needs aController,Infrared Emitter, and anLCD Screen, all of whichneed a Computation Brick, which arecrafted from Security Bot CPUsand other regular resources, andBoxes of Screws, which can befound on Level Threeor crafted if you’veunlocked the recipebyfinding an Anvil and craft a Repair & Salvage Station, theninteracting with it once.

You cantrade a Peccary Head to Warren at the first Security Booth and get the Employee Locator Trinket in return, which shows a faint outline of any nearby employees regardless of terrainand makes locating NPCs much easier.

Once you’vegot the Keypad Hacker, you canunlock anything that needs Clearance Level Oneby putting it in your hotbar, holding it, thenInteracting with a security keypad.

It’s possible toupgrade itto higher Clearance Levels later, but for now, head back to theSecurity Office on Level Two, and you may nowunlock that room.

Where To Find The Security Pistol

Goinside the Security Office, up eitherset of stairson each side of the room, and then over to alocked yellow door. Use theKeypad Hacker to unlockit, and you’ll find theSecurity Pistol and some 9mm Ammo on the counterat the end of the shooting range.

If youuse another Controller to repair the shutters, the Security Office makes an excellent base, as you’ll have easy access to the best areas of Level Two, the elevator shortcut to Level Three, and Manufacturing West, along with having plenty of room for storage and crafting stations.

The shooting range room also has asmall, secondary room with some resources,and in the left-hand corner of the room, abrokensection of the ceilingyou can use todrop into the locker roomfrom and unlock the door connecting it to the Security Office.

While its ammoisn’t quite as renewable as Makeshift Crossbow Boltsearly on, theSecurity Pistol’s higher damagemeans you’ll be able totake out enemies quickerand, overall,use fewer resourcesto kill things than before.

How To Get 9MM Ammo For The Security Pistol

The 9MM Ammo the Security Pistol and other guns use canonly be found in a few places, but like most other resources, such as Computer Monitors, it willperiodically respawn after a few in-game days, so you’re able to casually collect it or take some time tofarm up a stockpileof it. Later in the game, once youreach Manufacturing West and beyond, you’ll also encounterenemies like Grunts that wield Pistolsand other guns, andfrequently drop 9mm Ammoonce killed.
