Back in 2023,RobloxCEO David Baszucki revealed that the platformmay eventually be getting a dating feature. Like Tinder and other such platforms, it will allow people to meet in a digital space before meeting in person. Not much was heard about it since, but Baszucki recently revealed that the plans are still in action.
Speaking on theTech Stuff podcast(thanksGameRant), the CEO explained that this feature would only be available for people above the age of 21, after verification. While he didn’t reveal anything else about it, he seemed confident that it would be beneficial to those looking for companionship even though the platform has been used multiple times by predators for grooming.
Roblox’s Dating Feature Might Still Happen Someday
On the podcast, Baszucki said that he views Roblox to be more than just a gaming platform, and that one day it would become a place where people could meet, connect, and even forge relationships. He said that this feature would help cure the “loneliness epidemic going on in the world.”
He explained that Roblox could become much more than a gaming platform. A place where people can make connections, especially those feeling disconnected in other social circles or dealing with mental issues.
Of course, if you search forany news on Roblox, you’re going to come acrossvarious reportsabout how itssecurity features are not enough to keep children safe. Instead of addressingthese issues, Baszucki has been known to brush them off,simply telling parents not to let their kids play on Robloxif they’re so concerned.
Despite these issues, he feels that the dating feature will enable users to “have a virtual date to start and then, if they connect, move to the physical world.” He also described his vision for Roblox as a “wellness platform” that can “help loneliness and bring connection.” Of course, it would be great if Baszucki were able to actually solve the platform’s issues and fulfil his vision, but there’s obviously a lot of work to do.
