Horror Inc. vice president Robbie Barsamian has confirmed that a newFriday the 13thgame is currently in development, although we have no idea who’s working on it right now.
Over the past few years, games based on classic horror movies have been all the rage.Evil Dead the Game,Killer Klowns from Outer Space, andThe Texas Chain Saw Massacreall jump to mind, and the popularity of those adaptations can mostly be attributed to two games -Dead by Daylightand Friday the 13th: The Game.
Dead by Daylight’s influence in the horror game genre is obvious considering all of the games mentioned above are asynchronous online games, but Friday the 13th was arguably the first to do it so well with a specific license, leading to it gaining a cult following. That sadly didn’t stop it from being shut down due to licensing issues, leaving us all wondering whether a new game would ever be released.
Friday the 13th is getting a new game, although we don’t know what it’s going to be about
Just don’t get your hopes up for another multiplayer game
Well, it looks like we don’t have to wonder much longer. As pointed out by Bishop89 on ResetEraandshared by Bloody Disgusting’s Instagram, a new Friday the 13th game has been confirmed to be in development at San Diego Comic Con 2025. During a panel, Horror Inc. vice president Robbie Barsamian revealed that a new game is being made.
The rights for Friday the 13th have been in a very weird place for quite some time now, so it’s nice to see progress being made in bringing Jason back into the limelight.
Barsamian confirmed that a new sequel movie and a “new sequel game” are at the top of Horror Inc’s list of priorities right now, and where “most of our energy’s going”. Sadly, Barsamian wasn’t able to say who will be making the game right now or even what kind of game it’ll be, but we do at least know that “they’re both in the works and they’re both coming”.
While it might be easy to assume that the new Friday the 13th game will be a multiplayer title like its predecessor, that doesn’t seem super likely. The horror gaming space is crowded with similar games right now, and the original Friday the 13th: The Gamehad so many rights issuesthat it seems a dangerous path to go down.
With Hellraiser: Revival recently proving that horror fans want to see single-player adaptations, we can only hope that Horror Inc. is planning on doing the same with Friday the 13th. We’ll have to wait and see when Jason makes his grand return.
