Games don’t always make it obvious how old certain characters are. you may sometimes discover that information in an optional bit of dialogue or from reading a note you find lying around. Yet, it is a piece of information you can easily miss or simply forget.
With some characters, this info is important since you aren’t likely to accurately guess how old they are just by looking at them. This is because video games often have a habit of designing characters that look significantly younger or older than their intended age. As a result, there are some fairly young characters that look ancient. Here are some examples.
8Solidus Snake
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
Solidus is the main villain of the second Metal Gear Solid game. He has full grey hair and a grey beard. Plus, he is a former U.S President. Considering all that, you would assume he’s in his 50s or 60s during MGS2. Yet, he is actually just 37.
He, Solid Snake, and Liquid Snake are clones of the legendary soldier, Big Boss. So, they’re all the same age, even though he looks much older than his brothers. This is because he suffers from accelerated aging, which was written into his genes when he was created.
7Cid Highwind
Final Fantasy 7
There arenumerous versions of Cid from the Final Fantasy series. The one from the original FF7, however, stands out as being much younger than he appears. When you first meet the guy, he seems to be a grizzled old pilot.
Part of the reason for this is that his field model makes it seem like he has grey hair. In reality, he’s blonde, but the cigarette hanging out of his mouth and his generally grumpy facial expression also make him seem like he’s in his 40s or 50s. In reality, he’s only 32.
6Colton White
Gun
The protagonist from the game, Gun, doesn’t exactly look like an old man, but he does appear to be in his 30s. Yet, the character was actually born around 1863, and the game is set in 1880. Therefore, he’s only in his late teens.
He doesn’t resemble a teenager at all in either looks or personality. Living his life in the Old West likely contributed to his older appearance, as it was a challenging time to live in, and skincare wasn’t a high priority back then.
5Zachary Comstock
Bioshock Infinite
Zachary Comstock is the main antagonist of BioShock Infinite and the tyrannical leader of the city of Columbia. If he weren’t so evil, he could make a great Santa Claus, as he has the classic Santa look with the big white beard and hair.
So, he looks very old, but he’s actually only in his late 30s. A collectible you find in the game indicates that his aged appearance is down to his use of The Luteces' Device. The item’s main function is to open portals to other realms, but it has also accelerated his aging.
4Ramon Salazar
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Ramon Salazar serves asa memorable secondary villainin both Resident Evil 4 and its remake. In the original, he was a peculiar-looking individual who bore a resemblance to both an old man and a child.
In the remake, however, he just looks like a little old man. This is due to his wrinkly skin and full head of grey hair. His aged appearance is due to an illness and the viruses circulating in his body. He’s actually only 20 years old, despite looking at least 75 years old.
3Jack Marston
Jack Marston features in both Red Dead Redemption games. Since the second title is a prequel, he’s actually older in the first game. This is clear after the credits, where you see a grown-up Jack, roaming around alone andwielding powerful weapons.
He looks much older and more grizzled than he did before the credits. Yet, only three years have passed, so he’s only 19 after the credits. This is despite him sporting a nice goatee and looking about 30 years old.
2Mario
Super Mario Series
Mario may have a youthful exuberance, but he definitely seems like a middle-aged man. After all, he’s got a mustache, a little pot belly, and he appears to be an experienced plumber.
However, the creator of the character,Shigeru Miyamoto, once revealed in an interview that he is about 24 or 25 years old. He said this a while ago, so technically, he’s much older now, but the character has always looked like he’s in his 40s or 50s.
1Eveline
Resident Evil 7
To explain the situation with Eveline, we need to dive deep into spoiler territory for Resident Evil 7. In the horror game, Eveline is a genetically modified human who has supernatural abilities. She doesn’t use them for good, so she serves as the antagonist in the story.
She is supposed to be a 10-year-old, but her strange biology means she ages rapidly. As a result, when you meet her during the game, she is an elderly lady in a wheelchair. However, you don’t actually know it’s Eveline at the time, as you only discover that later in what is a shocking twist.
