The ninth main entry of the Resident Evil series has now been revealed. It’s calledResident Evil Requiem. The reveal naturally came with a trailer, which introduced everyone to the supposed protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from the Outbreak games.
What it doesn’t reveal is the identity of the game’s main villain. There is a creepy-looking guy sitting in a chair in the trailer that many believe could be the main villain, but it’s unclear whether that’s true or who the person even is. So, the big bad could still be a lot of different people. Here are some possibilities.
8Oswell E. Spencer
The Overarching Villain Finally Becomes A Main Antagonist
Oswell Spencer is arguably the biggest villain in the entire series since he’s the creator of Umbrella. That said, he’s never actually been the main antagonist in a game. So, now might be the time for him to play that role.
One issue is that Wesker killed him in RE5. Yet, someone coming back to life in Resident Evil isn’t too far-fetched, especially with all the crazy viruses in the series. Also, what adds to the likelihood of his return is that he gives off a similar vibe to the guy sitting in the chair in the reveal trailer.
7Natalia Korda
Finally Following Up On The End Of Revelations 2
Natalia Korda is a young girl with special powers who features as a playable character in Revelations 2. At the end of said game, it’s strongly hinted that Alex Wesker has taken over her body. This is a big twist that hasn’t yet been followed up on. So, Resident Evil Requiem could be the game in which the now villainous young woman returns, and reclaims her position as one ofthe best female characters in the series.
Perhaps Alex even desires to take over Grace’s body, as it’s indicated in the reveal trailer that she is special in some way. Maybe Grace’s body could make Alex even more powerful.
6Rosemary Winters
From A Baby To A Major Villain
For much of Resident Evil Village, Rose is a baby, but in the final cutscene and the Shadows of Rose DLC, she is a teenager. She isn’t just an ordinary teen, as she has special abilities. Perhaps she could use these abilities to create some problems in Reqieum. In fairness, she seems to be an honorable kid, but she wouldn’t be the firstResident Evil character to change a lot over the games.
Plus, she does prove to have a bit of a temper at the end of Village as she snaps at a guy. Being grumpy doesn’t necessarily mean she’s going to become a villain, but it is perhaps Capcom’s way of showing that there is some darkness inside her.
5Nathan Dempsy
Another Twist Villain?
Nathan hasn’t ever been in a Resident Evil game before, but he features in the first Requiem trailer. He’s Grace’s boss, who sends her on the assignment to where her mother died. Based on that alone, he isn’t the kindest boss. More importantly, he’s the reason why Grace gets in the horrible situation she clearly ends up in.
Resident Evil isn’t a stranger to twist villains ever since Wesker turned on his STARS teammates in the original game. So, Grace’s boss could be revealed as the big bad late into the story.
4Alyssa Ashcroft
Mother Turned Monster
The reveal trailer claims that Grace Ashcroft’s mother, Alyssa, from the Outbreak games, has been killed, and you’re visiting the place where she died. Since this is Resident Evil, she has probably been transformed into a large and grotesque monster.
However, if so, she may just be one of the game’s bosses instead of the main villain, as the antagonist usually doesn’t become a monster until deep into the game. That said, she could play a Nemesis-like role, as that beast is basically the main villain of RE3, as well as a recurring boss.
3Brandon Bailey
He Finally Shows His Face
Bradon Bailey isn’t a very well-known name in the Resident Evil series, and he’s even a lesser-known face, as he’s never actually appeared in a game. Yet, he is a very important character, as he was a founding member of Umbrella and, more recently, created the crime syndicate known as The Connections.
This group was responsible for the events of Resident Evil 7 and also worked with Mother Miranda. So, the crew has made a significant impact in recent games, and it might be time for their founder, Brandon Bailey, to take on a more hands-on villain role in Requiem.
2Albert Wesker
You Can’t Rule Out A Wesker Return
For a while, Albert Wesker seemed pretty much unkillable. After all, a tyrant impaled the guy, and he still managed to survive. That said, Chris and Sheva seemed to kill him off permanently at the end of Resident Evil 5 with two rockets and some lava.
However, even though he’s been gone for a while, he stillhas more appearances than most other Resident Evil characters. Therefore, it wouldn’t be completely shocking if Capcom figured out some way to bring him back. If that happened, it would feel like a bit of a cop-out, but it would be nice to see his slicked-back hair and sweet shades again.
1Grace Ashcroft
The Reveal Trailer Is Misleading
Choosing Grace Ashcroft as a potential villain in Resident Evil Requiem is a wild prediction. After all, in the reveal trailer, she is presented as the main protagonist. Yet, there have been rumors that Leon may actually be the protagonist.
So, what if the trailer is set a while before the events of the game and documents how Grace became a monster of some kind? By the start of the game’s story, she might have changed significantly and could be a deadly, infected creature that Leon or someone else has to stop. This is admittedly far-fetched, but not impossible.
