Playing as Raidou Kuzunoha XIV inRaidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Armycomes with some pretty hefty responsibilities: it’s largely on you to protect a skewed history version of the capital of Japan from demon invasions and people who seek to use said devils to their advantage. No pressure, right?
If you’re looking to get the most out of your playtime in Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, here are ten tips we worked out along the way that you need to know before you get too far into the game. It’s hard work, summoning devils!
10Leave Cities Through Different Exits
There’s Loot At Distant Street Car Stops
While you’ll be given plenty of directive in each chapter of Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, be sure to check your map often. Not only will the map of each area show you important things like Aril Rifts, new case files, hidden objects, and more, but you’ll see plenty of things on the overview of the streetcar map as well.
Thankfully, one of the upgrades from the original 2006 version of the game is that Raidou is able to use said streetcar to fast-travel between districts of the capital, with more unlocking during each case. Then main story will mark an objective at the exit you’ll need to use to reach your next goal, but feel free to wander a bit before you go.
You know when you’re looking at the streetcar map and notice shining hidden objects or people off on tracks you’re not able to get to? If you leave each city through its different exits, you’ll be able to explore the section of the streetcar map connected to that exit.
you may also fast-travel from a travel menu no matter where Raidou is, provided you have the yen to make the journey.
9Re-Register Demons Once They’ve Maxed Loyalty
You Can Summon Them Again At Full Loyalty This Way
The loyalty system is easy to let slip into being an afterthought, but the more you let each demon battle alongside Raidou on the field during combat, the more loyal they’ll become to him. Increasing a demon’s loyalty to maximum has a number of benefits, from a one-time perk when they reach the threshold for loyalty to seeing them become markedly better with using their skills and attacks in combat.
While it’s important to register your demons early and often after you’ve confined a new one on the field or made something cool in the fusion menu, it’s never a bad idea to overwrite old entries in the demon list with more powerful iterations.
If you use a skill book with a demon but don’t re-register it before fusing the skill away, re-summoning that demon will see them without their skill book learnings again.
When you visit the Goumaden, make it a point to see which Devil Chart entries Victor is able to rewrite for you. Yen will become less of an issue later in the game, but having powerful demons is always helpful.
8Use The Special Devil Chart For Your Best Demons
You’ll Be Able To Keep Different Versions Of The Same Demon
Say you’re really happy with the build you have on a devil in your compendium, but you progress through the main story enough and discover a cool iteration of it as an enemy in the wild that has completely different skills. Say you’ve been working toward a powerful end-game demon fusion recipe but aren’t quite sure which skills you’re aiming to pass along yet.
You can register every demon your fuse or confine with Victor in the Goumaden, but you’ll also have the ability to use the Special Devil Chart to register multiple iterations of the same demon. If you don’t have enough slots to save as many demons as you want, you can also purchase new Special Devil Chart slots from Victor for a slowly increasing price as you keep purchasing more.
7Costs Go Down At Kounno-Ya The More You Buy
That Old Man Means What He Says About Money Talking!
One of your first stops when you leave the Detective Agency after earning the title ofRaidou Kuzunoha XIVwill likely be at Kounno-ya, the general goods store just down the road from Narumi’s headquarters in Tsukudo-cho. Here, you’ll meet a curmudgeonly older man who runs the shop, and he’ll buy and sell all kinds of assorted healing items or debuffs here.
If you talk to him, though, you’ll notice that he’s pretty big on the concept of money talking, and he’s not lying to you about that. As you continue to go into Kounno-ya and spend cash buying items from the man (a stock that updates at least once in most major chapters), he may pause you as you leave.
Spending more money at Kounno-ya is a good way to get on the old man’s good side, and a rumor from the soda fountain in Ginza-cho is correct: spend cash with him, and he’ll begin lowering his prices once he knows you’re good for the payments.
6Different Weapons Have Different Stat Boosts
Choose Yours Based On Your Combat Style
Beginning in the second chapterof Raidou Remastered, you’ll have access to the Sword Alchemy function in the Goumaden, a fusion that allows Victor to create all kinds of upgraded weapons for Raidou to use in battle. You’ll see all your options early, but since you’ll need the base material of the sword one level lower than your new one, you may need to make some careful decisions on which upgrades to buy.
A big thing to keep in mind when using Sword Alchemy to upgrade Raidou’s weapon is that different weapon classes alter different stats, each offering a handful of boosts in addition to a slew of unique moves Raidou may not be able to learn through other methods in the game.
For example, the axes offer strength and HP boosts, while spears lean into vitality and swords into magic and luck. Notice where your combat strengths lie, and then choose weapons that highlight those strengths. If you don’t want tank-like strength, consider being more nimble and magic-based instead - there’s no right or wrong way to fight as long as you’re winning!
5Reorganize Sword Skills Before Major Battles
Exploit Weaknesses Whenever Possible
Throughout the earliest chapters of Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, you’ll be learning plenty of new abilities that Raidou can use to call on the elements for magic damage instead of relying solely on his familiars to deal it. These are his Sword Skills, and rearranging them often is critical to your successes in battle.
Not only will Raidou be picking up plenty of elemental powers, but you’ll learn a bevy of new skills and attacks when you upgrade your weapons with Sword Alchemy, with each upgrade teaching Raidou something new.
A good way to configure Raidou’s build-out is to peek ahead at what’s to come as often as possible. If you’re on a case that sees a lot of Frost Order demons, for example, you may want to consider putting the Pyro Sign back onto Raidou for that section. In need of some more powerful punches for combat? Swap elemental magic for brute strength with sword moves.
4Have Demons Who Know “Search” Follow You
They Pick Up Free Loot As You Walk
The nine Demon Orders in Raidou Remastered inform you which investigation skills your demons will have, and it’s always wise to keep a variety of Demon Orders in your tubes because of this. That said, you’ll always be able to choose which demon follows you and Gouto around as you explore, so make mindful decisions on who you’ve got out.
Demons that have the “Search” investigative ability are always a good choice for a partner in these cases, since their ability sees them sporadically picking up treasure as you walk around the overworld. You’ll see a notice that they’d like to talk, so speak to them to claim the item they’ve collected! Even if you don’t want the item, you can always sell it for yen.
3Unlock New Sodas At Shin-Sekai
The More You Drink, The More You Can Buy
If you’ve been paying attention to the phases of the moon in Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, then you’d be wise to visit Shin-Sekai over in Ginza-cho every now and again to grab a few of their famous sodas. For just a few hundred yen, Raidou can use these sodas to boost one of his stats for an entire lunar cycle in the game, which can come in handy when timing out when it’s time to face boss battles.
The soda fountain unlocks as soon as you reach Ginza-cho in the second act of the game, but you’ll want to visit periodically and splurge where possible, because the owner will expand his menu in time. Unlike Kounno-ya, the prices remain the same, but your options for new sodas will not expand each chapter like the general goods store, so be sure to stop in often and make nice with the owner.
Chat with the patrons every so often to hear tips on devil summoning, rumors around town, and more.
2Use Aril Rifts To Grind For EXP Between Story Missions
On every single map in the game, you’ll find a slew of Aril Rifts, the odd red bubbles floating in the regular world that threaten to become portals into the Dark Realm, opening havoc into the capital. As such, it’s up to Raidou and his demons to venture in and purge these Rifts whenever there’s time, and you’ll earn rewards for your efforts in the form of:
Make it a point to stop in and purge Aril Rifts as you find them – they’re often not long combat missions, anyway – and claim the rewards as soon as you’re able to. If you’re wandering between story segments, be sure to explore and find as many new Aril Rifts around the maps of the capital as you can.
Be sure to go back to the Nameless Shrine every now and again as you clear Aril Rifts, too, since the left Inari statue will offer rewards for your efforts.
1Start Confining Demons Even If You Don’t Want Them
You Get An Item For Reaching Halfway On Their Confinement Gauge
We’ve already listed tons of ways to get free items in Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army – having demons find them, paying attention to your map, etc. – but one of the quickest ways to grab important things like skill books or grimoires is to confine demons during battles even if you don’t want them.
You can stop confining the demon after the gauge reaches the halfway point, at which time the game tells you which item the devil has given. Feel free to keep confining if you do want to capture and use this devil, but there’s no need to if you don’t want. Grab some extra loot in your combat missions and make the most out of every demon on the battlefield.
