Soul Calibur is one of the most underrated games in thefighting game genre. With incredible characters like Kilik and Sophitia, the game should have a far bigger fanbase than it does. Soul Calibur 2, in particular, is such a fun and fleshed-out experience. It includes amazing story modes that involve interesting challenges and interesting lore of how the characters explore the world in their quest to find the Soul Edge.
All the characters in the series are extremely powerful weapon masters, but some have incredible innate abilities that put them above the rest in terms of fighting prowess.
10Heihachi
We may be out of pocket for this one, being that Heihachi was theguest characterin Soul Calibur 2 in the PlayStation 2 version. Still, the feats that the patriarch of the Mishima family has accomplished in his series match some of the wildest things that have occurred in Soul Calibur.
Heihachi seems like an average grandfather, but this strong man has survived numerous trials and tribulations, even coming close to death. Don’t mess with him, or you’ll get hellswept into submission.
9Yoshimitsu
Even though Yoshimitsu has become a legacy rather than a character, this warrior is one heck of a swordsman. The original Yoshimitsu vowed to take revenge against the one who wiped out his village, and through the power of the Soul Edge, he has gained incredible strength.
At the end of Soul Calibur 2, Yoshimitsu even banded together with many strong warriors to find the remaining shards of the Soul Edge, in order to prevent its evil from spreading. What a noble task.
8Link
Sure, Link is another guest character, but we cannot leave him out of this list. The hero of time andchampion of Hyrulecould definitely be the one to stop the Soul Edge from corrupting more people.
Fully armed with his Ocarina Of Time arsenal, he can compete with some of the strongest warriors in the realm, even if he is from an entirely different series. He’s probably the only character in the series to match Sophitia’s courage. Sadly, competitively speaking, Link is permastuck at the bottom of the tier list.
7Kilik
The wandering warrior Kilik is tasked with destroying Soul Edge as it has awakened recently, so what makes him one of the strongest in the roster? Well, competitively speaking, Kilik is an incredible character since his bo staff has a long reach and amazing burst as well as knockdown potential.
His power increasingly goes up as the series progresses, but in Soul Calibur 2, his power level, lore wise, is about neck and neck with his partner and rival Xiangua. Not to mention he was the one to defeat Nightmare.
6Cervantes
Not only was Cervantes a powerful pirate during his mortal life, but his fealty to the Soul Edge proved to be scarier than his pillaging. After his contact with the powerful weapon, he became possessed and driven to serve its purpose of stealing souls.
Anyone who has spent that much time at sea eventually becomes obsessed with an item, but in Cervantes’ case, it was the most dangerous thing to hyperfocus on.
5Ivy
As one of the poster girls and Cervantes’ daughter, Ivy Valentine is a strong warrior. Her journey to destroy Soul Edge began as a revenge quest against the weapon for corrupting her father. She became corrupted as well after joining forces with Nightmare, but was able to break free and construct a new weapon for herself.
Any Ivy conversation revolves around her revealing outfits, but her strength is often overlooked, as her fighting prowess and cunning are some of her most notable skills.
4Sophitia
When an actual god tasks you with destroying the Soul Edge and grants you a holy weapon to do so, then you’re probably a big deal. Sophita is not only one of the strongest kinds of people in the world–a mother–but she is also kind and caring.
She is one of the most iconic characters in Soul Calibur for a reason, to the point that she’s constantly compared to the green-adorned Hylian, Link. Sadly for Link, this is the Soul Calibur series, where Sophitia reigns supreme.
3Taki
Whenever someone mentions strong female characters from Soul Calibur, most will first think of the red ninja, Taki. This girl is one of the fastest characters on the roster, and her signature jumps will leave just about any opponent completely and utterly confused.
Even though most people that came into contact with shards of Soul Edge became corrupted by its evil power, Taki was one of the few that sought it out due to sheer curiosity about its strength. Tell me that’s not tough.
2Mitsurugi
Just like theotherwandering warrior in fighting games, Mitsurugi is constantly seeking a tough opponent to give him a run for his money. This man is tough as nails. As per his bio, it is known that Mitsurugi looked to fight in every war in Japan, as he was in an eternal search of a worthy match.
There have been numerous entries of Soul Calibur after 2, and Mitsurugi still hasn’t found the one. Maybe they should make a reality show where they throw opponents at him.
1Nightmare
There’s a reason why Nightmare is the main antagonist of Soul Calibur 2. He is the guy to beat. He is menacing, not only in design, but his version of Soul Edge is the scariest-looking weapon in the entire series. It is truly something out of Resident Evil.
Only defeated by the bo staff wielder, Kilik, Nightmare is truly one of the toughest characters in the game. No other villain or antagonist has ever come close to the nightmarish –pun intended– power that he possesses.
